Principal's Report

When writing my comment for our school newsletter I have been guilty of looking back at previous years to be reminded of the various important events that we would have celebrated at Rangeview during term 1. Normally I would be heralding the twilight sports day or Harmony day, or the students going to the leadership conference in the city.

But how has our world changed. Words like self isolation, COVID  19, cough etiquette, social distancing are now common place. 2020 will be known for many things – some not so great like toilet paper mania.

How we respond to challenging situations can bring out the best in people. I am immensely proud or our staff and their can do attitude to make a difference. The teachers have worked in teams preparing for a potential school closure with on line learning resources and materials for students to use at home. They have supported staff on sick leave or carers leave. You have thanked them for keeping going and supporting your children.

Teachers and our educational support staff have been learning to video call and use Seesaw to upload learning tasks, videos and give feedback to students. There was a hive of activity as our aides practised this today.

Thank you to our students and to you, our parents. I cannot predict whether students will be at home learning or at school on Wednesday 15 April, but I know that the staff have prepared a warm welcome to all students – remotely or face to face.

Our children are looking to the adults in their world to help them interpret this new and unpredictable time. As we are bound to home and families, find the joy in this precious time spent together as it will go relatively quickly.

I will continue to send out updates to our families as they come through and I appreciate your feedback.

Many families have collected these learning  packs already. The office will be open for this week to collect them if you have not.

Be safe and well and I look forward to welcoming you back on Wednesday 15 April.
