St Mel’s Parish is a welcoming and caring community that helps all people grow stronger in our Catholic Faith!

St Mel’s Parish Prayer

God our Father,

Bless our Parish so that we may love you more.  Encircle our families with your loving care.  Help parents to be good examples to their children and our youth to grow in strength as good Christians. To the sick, grant health. To the aged, bring serenity and to those in sorrow, joy.

May we grow stronger in faith and may our love for one another become deeper in our daily living.

Amen

Being part of the parish

A reflection from Fr Peter

‘A God of Relationship’

From our childhood experiences the understanding of God making up three persons has been a mystery. Many have tried using their formulas, St. Patrick used the three leaf clover! Those who have mathematics ability will say... ‘three into one doesn’t work’. So what do we do in our limited capacities to make sense of the Trinity?

For a start it is helpful to see God’s presence in our lives as one where a relationship is deepened.

The unique personal qualities God brings is through a variety of persons. It’s a dynamic of relationship! We become influenced by this relationship. We can look to the saints for their inspiration. Our Parish of St. Mel’s over the years has seen St. Anthony being one who brings the simple presence of God’s love as real and personal.

So we don’t try and solve this mystery of faith. As is said in matters of faith experiences, we let the revelation and the invitation of this mystery to impact us. Jesus’ command to love as He loves is at the heart of this notion of God. This becomes the truth of all God desires and intends for us in our human journey of life and faith.

The Trinity of God’s love evokes a way for us to be outwardly focused in this three person image of God. Its good we look to the gifts of the Holy Spirit and one gift through the Trinity we become opened to is that of Wisdom. Wisdom animates us in being Spirit – filled and where the Trinity acclaims God being personal with us.
