A Word from Tanya

Dear Families,
It was lovely to enjoy such a delightful long weekend with the sun shining and a chance to enjoy the outdoors.
I loved precious time on the beach at Cowes running after soldier crabs with my very excited grandson Sonny!
Unfortunately many students and their families have illnesses that are taking time to recover from. We all appreciate the time spent away from school to avoid the spread of further illness. To date we have still only one confirmed case of flu as per the test required. Please inform us if you have a similar diagnosis confirmed by the test.
Farewell Kellie!
It was only a matter of time before Yarra Ranges Council saw the value our Kellie could bring to their team by working full time! Kellie has so many opportunities on offer by working five days instead of three at the council. It was of course with sadness, but happiness for Kellie’s future work, that I wish her all the best as she ends her time at Menzies this term. She has done an amazing job in the kitchen with students and their families and brought a wealth of knowledge and experiences to the program. We wish Kellie all the best for the future!
We have been fortunate to gain a new teacher, Darna, who is currently overseas, and will commence in Week 3 of next term. Darna has loads of talent and being a teacher has a lot of experience, so we are very fortunate.
Principal Intern
Today we had the pleasure of welcoming, for an induction day visit, our new Principal Intern who I will be mentoring. Lisa comes from Yarra Junction P.S and the staff team are delighted to have Lisa join us on her journey of new learnings. Lisa will complete two weeks with us in Term 3 and two weeks in Term 4. Please provide that very special Menzies Creek welcome if you see her!
Year 6 Hiking
What a great day and what a challenge to overcome. I was so proud to hear of the persistence, despite a rigorous uphill climb, that all students showed. Their behaviour was brilliant and it was lovely to receive emails from families saying this. Thank you to all parent helpers and to those who provided transport to the venue.
Busy Times Ahead!
Next week all staff have their planning days to develop the curriculum outline for Term 3. These are precious days where loads of hard work goes into developing such a range of deep, authentic learning experiences. The timetable for planning days is as follows:
Monday June 17th - Year 3/4
Tuesday June 18th - Year Foundation
Wednesday June 19th - Year 5/6
Thursday June 20th - Year 1/2
Friday June 21st - Anne- planning, Kylie- planning.
Year 5/6 will participate in the Lightning Premiership on Monday ( it was a great call to postpone from yesterday). Thank you to the mighty canteen gems- Annika, Nicole and Davida who will be running the canteen for the whole of the EDEC schools and all profit goes to Menzies. Thank you ladies so much!!!
Menzies Has Got Talent
This very popular leadership event takes place next Wednesday and Thursday during break times. We thank our Performing Arts Captains for their organization and the wonderful making of the prizes. Can’t wait to see our talented performers!
Assembly
This week our gorgeous buddies and Junior choir will be presenting. All families are welcome!
Keep warm everyone and stay well!
