From the Principal's Desk

I warmly welcome all new and existing families back to the beginning of the school year. I trust that you had a relaxing and enjoyable break.
I thank everyone for their flexibility during our time of establishing classes and finalising new enrolments. Our classes are set now and there should only be very minimal changes from this point forward.
New staff to LPS
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome;
Miss Kasey Blackwell who was successful via an Expression of Interest (EOI) process in 2020. Kasey started her teaching career casually in the Wollongong area in 2020, where she completed her pre-service placements too. Kasey will teach 1/2B for Term 1.
Mrs Ebony Celin was permanently appointed to LPS over the holiday period as targeted graduate. Ebony has completed her pre-service placements in schools in the Campbelltown area. She also has a young family and resides locally. Ebony will teach 1/2E this year at LPS.
Miss Taylor Gough was permanently appointed to LPS towards the end of 2020 and completed some casual days at our school then too. Taylor has worked casually and completed her pre-service placements in the local area also. Taylor will teach 3/4G in 2021.
I also welcome Miss Lubna Mustapha to our LPS staff. Lubna spent some time on a pre-service placement at LPS in 2020 with 5/6T. Lubna did a wonderful job, collaborating with staff and developing relationships with students during this time. As a result, she was offered a position on staff for 2021. Lubna will teach 5/6M this year.
Mrs Kathy Hansen also completed a pre-service placement at LPS in 2019 on 5/6B. She was successful through an EOI process in 2020 gaining a RFF position at our school. Kathy has worked locally as a casual and lives in the area. She is keen to work with Mrs Matthews learning about technology and the library. Kathy will also replace Mrs Jessica Seeney when she takes maternity leave from Term 2, 2021.
I also welcome Ms Sheridan Montague to LPS. Sheridan was successful through an EOI process in 2020 in gaining a School Learning and Support Officer position. Sheridan also worked casually during 2020 and resides in the local area. She will work with targeted students to improve their numeracy skills and support administration in the library.

Road Safety Reminders
Traffic has been quite heavy on Burrendong Road and I have witnessed some driving and parking choices that put the safety of our students and community at risk.
The area next to the school pedestrian gate is the Bus Zone. You cannot stop a vehicle here unless you are driving a bus. This sign to the right indicates a Bus Zone. The fine for being caught in a Bus Zone is up to $337 and 2 Demerit points.
The other sign in the above photo is a No Stopping sign. In the area in the direction of the arrow, you must not stop your vehicle at any point unless there is a medical emergency. If you are caught in this area the fine is up to $448 and 2 Demerit points.
On Burrendong Road, the area between the driveways to the staff car parks, is No Parking during specific hours. This means that you have no more than 2 minutes to drop off or pick up passengers and you must stay within 3 metres of your vehicle. When parents park and get out of their car in this area, it results with congestion on Burrendong Road and double parking, which puts the safety of our students at risk. If you are caught in the No Parking area during those times, you will receive a fine of up to $187 and 2 Demerit points. If you are caught double parking you will receive a fine of up to $337 and 2 Demerit points. I have attached a poster below with more information.
It is also important to make sure that you are paying attention to the crossing supervisor and cross at the designated area.
For the safety of all our community, please drive with care and follow the road rules.
Cooler Classrooms
Our school has progressed in the Cooler classrooms program. We are now in the design phase.
As part of the Cooler Classrooms works at our school, we have been advised by the local electrical supply authority that an upgrade to the local electricity network is needed to support the increased electrical demand of the new air conditioning systems. Further investigations including engagement with our valued school neighbours will take place in the coming weeks. We will continue to keep you updated on progress.
Boundary Works Burrinjuck Street
We have been informed that the work to repair the storm water drainage behind the residents on Burrinjuck Street (who back onto the school) and the crib retaining wall near the Kindergarten classrooms will begin soon. There should be minimal impact on school operations during this time. Work will begin onsite from approximately 7am in the morning and there will be some excavation taking place, so local residents may be affected by this noise. Work will be carried from Monday to Saturday. The estimated completion of works is approximately six weeks, however, this is subject to weather.
Please contact the school if you have any concerns about these rectification works.
Entry & Exit via Back Gate to Parkhill Avenue
Students and families are reminded to be respectful of our neighbours when walking up to the back exit of Parkhill Avenue. Please dispose of rubbish in our school bins or when you get home, rather than leaving on the ground or throwing over the residents’ fences. If you witness anyone doing the wrong thing in this area, please notify a teacher.
I look forward to a productive school year.
