Grace Garden

This year we are launching a new garden program within the school. The amazing, pre-existing lunchtime program will continue to run on Mondays. The Year 3, 4 and 5 classes will be regularly involved in planning, maintaining and growing the garden. We are also planning a mentoring program for some students who have a different learning style.

One of the main projects we are hoping to get off the ground is the construction of a hot house. This will increase our "growing season", teach students about propagation and water resource management and provide an area for some of our students with sensory needs to take some time out. We will also be using the produce to cook beautiful dishes. This food will be used to serve the community around us, sometimes we’ll enjoy it ourselves and learn about the flavours, and at other times we will sell it to learn about the profit and loss aspect involved in running a business.

As part of the process of clearing up the garden area, we have removed a couple of trees. As a result, we have a small amount (about 3 trailer loads) of firewood for sale. This money will go straight to the garden program. There are logs ready for burning and some green wood as well. Please get in touch with Mrs de Lacy if you'd like some! We’ll do you a deal!

...Can you help?

There are many opportunities to volunteer in our program. If you are interested, we would LOVE to hear from you! Some of the opportunities are listed below:

  1. Lunchtime program
  2. Assisting with classes
  3. Cooking with students
  4. Building our new hothouse
  5. Heavy duty garden jobs such as whipper snipper or chainsawing (must hold a chainsaw ticket)

A couple of weeks ago, we asked 2 classes for donations of things we need for the garden and we have been overwhelmed at the support and generosity of our community. Thank you so much to those who have contributed so far.

There are some items which we still need that are listed below. If you think you can help with any of these items, please leave them at the front office, or in the case of larger items, email Mrs de Lacy to organise drop off.

Better Buddies: Lunch on the Lawn and Teddy Bear Picnic (Repeat)

As a Primary school we are going to eat our packed lunches together on the school oval on Tuesday 9th of March, with the aim of building community and friendship. Students will gather in groups to eat with their Buddy classes. Older Buddy classes are required to bring picnic blankets (only 2 or 3 per class required). Younger classes (and older if they wish) can bring a Teddy.
