Health and Physical Education

On Thursday the 25 February, two students, Olivia Sloman and Caitlyn Vaughan, and I had the privilege to attend the annual SCSA sports breakfast to listen and learn from former 10 x Australian backstroke swimming champion, Nicole Livingston. Nicole competed in 3 Olympic Games and won 6 gold medals from three Commonwealth games and 4 from competing in six Pan Pacific championships. After retiring from swimming in 1996, Nicole has since taken up the role of CEO for the AFLW as well as being involved with media presenting and sports commentary. As I was listening to her speak, she kept going back to the topic of having a good support system and making sure that it is important to have people around you that you can talk to.This piece of advice is not only important in sport, but is also important in everyday life. Having a good support system will keep you on track and better your mental health. Another good point that Nicole spoke about is the made up word “flearning”.She explained that to learn, you have to make room for failure and mistakes. This word also relates to always having the mindset to put in 100% effort. If things go well and if you stick to having a positive mindset, your work will hopefully pay off one day!
