Student Artwork Unveiled at Commonwealth Bank Newcastle

Today seven Aboriginal students who were commissioned to create an aerial landscape artwork for the Commonwealth Bank attended the unveiling.

The artwork is titled: Our Lands. Our Countries. The creators areFarani Denniss, Macayla Gnomes De Magalhaes, Jakobie Jackson, Kyah Olsen, Georgia Sams, Samuel Tedd, Jaimee Ward and Jasmine Ward.

Korreil Wonnai AECG recognise three language groups and countries on which local schools reside, and create opportunities for all students to learn about these cultures as much as possible. Students at Kurri Kurri High School used an abstract aerial landscape technique to show where local mobs, the Wonnarua, Darkinjung and Awabakal lands meet the waterways. The depths of natural flora are depicted with various colour tones and impressions of wattle. This artwork demonstrates Aboriginal kids standing up and being proud while learning about the magnificent countries in their own backyards, depicting their voice and connection to land, culture and each other.

While we were at the unveiling, the office donated an additional $140 to Jaimee Ward’s Shave for a Cure bid.  We went on a tour of the office space and learnt about future job opportunities.  The morning tea and swag bags were amazing too!
