STEM

Year 8

This term students in Year 8 STEM and Technology classes are completing a REAL Project related to toys. Students will investigate the science and maths involved in self propelled toys, and then will design and build toys to be sold at a fundraising market afternoon.

Year 9

In Maths and Science students are examining the concepts related to Rube Goldberg machines, and then designing a recycling collector. The final designs will be judged in Week 10 and we will hopefully have a winning design which will be built later this year.

Electives are underway for this year – with three classes undertaking brand new Design and Technology courses focusing on STEM skills, fun uses of technology and jewellery making. We look forward to showing off some amazing projects in the next newsletter.

Year 10

Students in Year 10 have begun the year with an in-depth data investigation in their Maths REAL Project and are studying Chemistry in Science lessons.

Elective courses are in full swing – students are already immersed in REAL Projects using their timber, metal and food technology skills. Again look for some photos of completed projects in the next newsletter.

Year 11

Most of our new senior students have settled into their Stage 6 courses. STEM teachers would like to remind students to stay focused in class and complete some studying at home each week. Many of the first assessment tasks have been issued and will be due before the end of the term.

Year 12

Less than three terms to go for this group of amazing students. Stay calm, stay focused and remember that your teachers are here to help and support you. Make good use of your free periods – and access the study centre to help you achieve your best.
