CAREERS

MRS SELLERS-FOGARTY

So firstly, I would like to introduce myself, I am Jennifer Sellers-Fogarty and I have been working in the Careers/Transition space for a number of years. What a pleasure to be at Kurri Kurri High!  I look forward to catching up with students about their career goals and aspirations as well as supporting students with UAC information and the university admissions, not forgetting those apprenticeship and job opportunities that I am happy to support.

Currently we are in the midst of implementing the ‘White Card’ course which will see students go through a safety induction process to gain accreditation to go on work sites and areas requiring White Card access. This is a one off training which I would highly recommend for any student over 14 who is considering a VET course or looking towards a trade apprenticeship. I will be running a second White Card course at a later date in early term 2.

Careers is also busy organising the YES (Youth Engagement Strategy) Program. This is an umbrella program where lots of courses sit under. Students have had the opportunity t be part of mini TAFE taster programs such as Childcare, Animal Care, Automotive, Plastering, just to name a few. These short courses give students the opportunity to:

  • Develop new skills
  • Discover career opportunities
  • Navigate a new environment
  • Experience vocational training
  • Become work ready

Commitment and student attendance to the program is mandatory in order to achieve competencies. Students who commit to the program, upon completion will receive a Certificate of Attainment, which will support them not only in their resume but toward further training and employment.
