Open Day and School Tours

Our Open Day this year is on 18th March and school tours are already happening. Please spread the word amongst friends and families that enrolments are open for 2022 and beyond.

2021 Camps

As many families are aware we surveyed families in 2019 about extending our camp program at St Bede's. We had booked for both a Year 5/6 and Year 3/4 camp last year but unfortunately 2020 had other ideas! As was announced in last week's newsletter the Grade 5/6 camp this year has now been booked for April at Mt Evelyn. We are currently in negotiation with Sovereign Hill to confirm dates for a Grade 3/4 camp later this year. We will communicate as soon as we have confirmed dates.

Staff Professional Learning Day

Friday the 5th of March is a school closure day for staff professional learning. The focus of the day is curriculum mapping across the year and auditing our planned curriculum against the Victorian Curriculum.  We will be planning our Inquiries with a focus on 'conceptual worth'.  'The best contexts for inquiry lend themselves to learning that goes beyond the content of the inquiry itself. Great contexts for inquiry have some conceptual congruence' and gives students insights into big ideas that they will, ideally, visit time and time again across their schooling'. K.Murdoch 2015. So simply put it is a deeper inquiry for a child to investigate as a scientist / researcher about why bees are important in our environment  rather than simply lets find out about bees. This deeper inquiry would look at the concepts of interdependence, lifecycles, roles and communities and therefore transfer across to other learning involving these concepts.

Prep Testing Days

The Preps have been attending individually on Wednesdays to have 1:1 testing as a part of their transition to school. This is a great opportunity for the staff to know where each child is at and therefore differentiate learning.  Next week will be the first full week for Preps. A very exciting time for both the Preps and their families! No doubt there will be some very tired preppies next Friday!!

Have a wonderful week.
