Principal’s Message

Mr Nick Baird

Dear Parents and Carers,

We certainly are a country of drought and flooding rains! I hope that the rain has helped our farming families and that you and your loved ones have stayed safe over the weekend.

As we head into Week 9 of term, our focus at Sacred Heart will be to collect our Term 1 learning data to help us realign our learning goals and targets heading into Term 2. Tomorrow, the Term 1 Cold Write will be held in classes with a focus on Narratives. The staff will also assess student reading levels this week to continue our focus on improving learning outcomes, with a specific focus on comprehension skills. On Tuesday of next week, all teachers will analyse this data to help us set our improvement goals moving forward.

Students in Year 3 and Year 5 will this week sit their practice test for the 2021 NAPLAN Online assessment. This test gives us the opportunity to check that our network and hardware are ready for the online assessment, plus gives our students the chance to practice using the online platform. Any students that are away on Thursday will have the opportunity to sit this practice test before the end of term. The actual 2021 NAPLAN Online assessments will be held in Week 4 and Week 5 of next term.

The Term 1 Parent/Teacher Interviews are set down for Monday 29 March from 1.00pm to 4.00pm. I strongly urge all parents and carers to organise an interview with your child's class teacher to discuss their learning goals for Term Two. If the date and time are unsuitable, please do not hesitate to contact us at school to arrange an alternative time.

This Sunday is our Term 1 Working Bee on the school grounds from 9:30am to 12.00pm. If you are able to help, there are many jobs around the school needing to be done. A BBQ lunch for all helpers will be supplied. Please bring along some gloves, tools, wheelbarrows, whipper snippers or mowers. We also have quite a bit of rubbish which needs moving to the tip, so if you have a trailer that would be greatly appreciated. Please note - power tools such as chainsaws are not permitted.

Have a great week!

Nick Baird
