News from Physical Education

District Cross Country

On Friday 5th May there were 60 students from Year 3-6 who represented Karoo at the District Cross Country event at Jells Park. For this event the students competed against students from other schools in the Rowville District. As the Physical Education teacher at Karoo Primary School, it brought me great pleasure to witness the tenacity displayed by all students who participated in the event. You should all be extremely proud of your effort and for striving to achieve personal excellence!

I also want to acknowledge the outstanding organisation and supervision provided by Claire Moyle, Joshua Edwards and Karla Markovic throughout the day. In addition, to Janna Wright who volunteered to assist RDSSA with supervision around the course. The day simply would not have been possible without your support!

Finally, I want to acknowledge and congratulate Chloe V (4T), Declan (5D), Asher (5E), Eva (5W), Bree (6H) and Jack (6H) who finished in the top 12 and have progressed through to the Knox Division Cross Country. Special mention to Chloe V for finishing in first place for the 9/10 girls age group, as well as Asher for finishing in second place for the 9/10 boys age group. The Knox Division Cross Country event will be held at Jells Park on Friday 2nd June. The invitations were awarded to these students at the District Cross Country event. The consent and payment information will be available soon on Compass.

Karoo House Athletics Day

This Friday 19th May all students from Year 3-6 will travel to AC Robertson Athletics Track (Ringwood Athletics Track) to participate in our Karoo House Athletics Day. For this event, students will compete in 7 different athletics events, including the 100m sprint, 200m sprint, hurdles, long jump, triple jump, discus and shot put. The students have also been provided with the option of signing up to compete in the 800m endurance run. Students will compete in groups with a maximum size of 4 for the track events (excluding the 800m). All students will receive a place ribbon regardless of their finishing position for the 100m sprint, 200m sprint and hurdles. For the field events and 800m endurance run, only the students who finish in the top 4 for their year level and gender will receive a ribbon.

All students are expected to wear their house colours on the day. They are also encouraged to bring their drink bottle, hat, sunscreen, school windcheater, rain jacket, snack, lunch and asthma medication (if required). Please remember that your child will need to be at school at 8:50am the latest due to the buses leaving promptly at 9am.

Throughout the day, students will compete in their year level and gender for each event. However, when determining progression through to the next round, their individual performance in each event will be compared with other students in their same age group (e.g. 9/10's, 11's or 12/13's). The top 2 performing students for each age group and gender, in each event, will progress through to District Cross Country on Friday 11th August at AC Robertson Athletics Track (Ringwood Athletics Track).

Please Note: When finalising the Karoo District Athletics Team for 2023, students who are unable to attend the event on Friday may be considered for special consideration based on their performance for each event during PE sessions.

IMPORTANT: The students will not be able to purchase lunch orders on the day, however, the canteen at AC Robertson Athletics track will be running for the duration of the event. Therefore, students are welcome to bring money and use this during their break time to purchase food for their snack or lunch.

Sport School Victoria Trials

This term we have some extremely talented athletes who have participated in trials for Sport School Victoria Teams. Well done to Maya L (6W) and Mia M (6H) for attending the basketball trials. I wish you both all the very best of luck for your upcoming football trials. In addition, it was a huge effort for Declan C (5D) to attend the football trials bottom age as a Year 5 student - what a fantastic achievement!

Congratulations to Aden T (6M) who has progressed through to the next stage of the Sport School Victoria trials for football. Aden will attend his second stage trials this Friday 19th May. On behalf of the Karoo community, we are so proud of you and wish you good luck for Friday!
