It was fantastic to see the return of the Mothers Day stall. We hope the students were able to smuggle back some special gifts and that all the Mothers and special people who celebrated had a wonderful and well deserved day being spoiled.

UNWELL STUDENTS

We wanted to touch base to let you know that one of our Foundation students in 0CW is currently undergoing cancer treatment. The student will be missing quite a lot of school during this time, but will have opportunities to attend during breaks in her treatment. To ensure that she has a safe environment to learn, we ask that you make sure that you keep your children at home whenever they shown signs of illness such as sore throat, runny nose and cough. If your child has gastro symptoms (vomiting/diarrhoea) they must be kept home for 48 hours from their last sign of symptoms. These are the same rules that we always have in place, but we ask that families take extra caution to ensure the safety of everyone in our community.

GRADE 4 CAMP OASIS

Last week the Grade 4's went to Camp Oasis, we all had lots of great experiences and it was pleasing to see students making new friends. We would love to thank all the parent helpers, teachers and support staff that helped make this a memorable experience. All the students were well mannered and showed the Vermont Primary School Values. Below are some students comments about camp and some pictures.

“I was so terrified of rock climbing because I am scared of heights but it ended up being lots of fun!” Akshara 4PS.

National eSmart Week

On Tuesday 23rd May, the Year 3 and 4 students will attend a cyber safety incursion called Think You Know. This will be led by Senior Constable Tania McLaren who is a local Proactive Policing Officer.

The session is part of our celebration of National eSmart Week and looks at what students see, say and do online. It also discusses online challenges they may encounter in a sensitive and age appropriate manner. Online risks or dangers are referred to as online challenges because not every online experience results in harm and challenges can be prevented, managed and overcome.

If you would like further information about Think You Know, you can visit their website

https://www.thinkuknow.org.au/about

or email Julie Hall our eSmart co-ordinator julie.hall2@education.vic.gov.au

They will also participate in a lesson during Digi Tech - check out the eSmart page to find out more.

Year 4 Excursion to Melbourne Museum – 15th June

As part of their Term 2 Inquiry investigations into the history of Australia, Year 4 students will venture to the Melbourne Museum for an excursion on Thursday, 15th of June (Week 8).

A key focus of the excursion will be on the history of the First Peoples of Victoria and a sense of how indigenous people of Victoria have passed down their knowledge, skills and culture over thousands of decades. Students will work in teams to complete a booklet that sharpens their focus on the relationship between country and culture, and the connection to place.

Throughout the excursion students will also have the opportunity to wander through various museum exhibitions including the Melbourne Story, Milarri Garden, Forest Gallery and Dinosaur Walk.

Payments for this excursion will open on Qkr on the 22nd of May. Please email your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

GRADE 3, 3D SHAPE ROBOTS

During Class Maths sessions, students have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We worked out how many faces, edges and vertices the shapes had and then discovered what the nets of the shapes looked like. We then used this understanding to design a Robot made up of 3D shapes, selecting the nets needed to make them.
