On Wednesday 31st we have the Royal Flying Doctors visiting our Foundation students! This incursion is part of Foundation students learning about our Community Helpers and also occupations. The payment/form is on QKR. The payment is $6.50 each. Please ensure you have paid for the incursion before Wednesday 24th May. Students who haven’t paid will unfortunately miss out on going on the plane and using the flight simulator! Some photos will be included in the next Newsletter.

Photos – Inquiry

We have started using all the wonderful photos that have been sent in for our Inquiry Unit – thank you to everyone! If you haven’t already, please do! We are using the photos to share about our families, our history and to help us with a book we are writing. Students who do not have a photo to use in class often become upset, so please send them if you have not.

(Photos needed: 1 of each- baby photo, family photo, celebration photo, favourite photo)

Firefighters

We loved having the fire brigade come into VPS to visit. We learnt about fire safety and who to call in an emergency. Thank you to all those families who also made a fire safety plan together at home! Here are some photos from our incursions.

What’s on in the Classroom?

Maths

We are:

- counting forwards and backwards from different starting points

- improving our number formation

- making, identifying and copying patterns

- sharing objects fairly and evenly between two or more groups

- comparing the capacity of different containers

- describing capacity using words like full, half full, empty

- using location words to describe where an object is

Literacy

Please ensure you are signing student’s reader folders each time they read! Students will move to a new colour book once they have read all of the books they currently have. We check this by seeing if each book has been ticked or signed off. Students may take the same book home again and again if it is not signed off!

- revising and learning new sounds

- learning common words

- using our sounds to read simple sentences

- using our family pictures to help us write about our lives and make our own books!

We have finished retelling the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Check out our amazing writing which shows the start, middle and end of the story.

PMP

On alternating Mondays, we go to the stadium or little oval to take part in PMP - Perceptual Motor Program. PMP helps students develop their hand/eye coordination, eye/foot coordination, fitness, balance, locomotion and eye-tracking skills. Activities include balancing, hopping, two feet jumping, skipping, throwing, catching and more. All of these are important for helping us build our strength and learn in the classroom too!

Here are some photos of us having fun at PMP.
