From The Principals

Important updates from Mrs Mann, Mrs Cook & Mrs Strachan

Hello VPS families, and welcome to this issue of the Nurlendi News. With another busy fortnight behind us, we are thrilled to report that we have had two successful camps as well as our Mother's Day stall. We hope that all the Mother's and special mother figures in our community had a wonderful day on Sunday and were thoroughly spoiled by your families.

We would also like to extend a huge thank you to the members of the Community Network who put together a wonderful selection of gifts that students could purchase at the Mother's Day Stall. It was wonderful to see the students so excited to buy something for their Mum or other special people.

We also thank the Community Network who hosted a 'coffee and catch up' for parents after assembly on Monday. There are more opportunities for parents to meet up and chat coming up in the future, and we would love for you to join in.

Mobile phones at school & kinder

We remind families that students are not permitted to have phones with them during the day. Any students who have a mobile phone must hand it to the teacher upon arrival, where it will be securely stored until the end of the day.  This includes smart watches that have call and text capabilities. We remind you that the mobile phone policy is on the school website.

Road safety

Sadly, we still have a number of families failing to follow road rules in the streets surrounding the school. We urge people using the roads at pick up and drop off time to follow the parking restrictions, and drive in a safe manner. There have been a few close calls in the last weeks and we are very concerned that someone will get hurt. We have had members of Victoria Police patrolling the school zone this week, and this will continue sporadically over the coming weeks with fines being issued for motorists failing to follow the road rules. Please take care.

Student health

As we approach winter, students may present to the First Aid room with coughs, colds and sniffles. We remind parents that students who are ill should remain at home for their own health and wellbeing, but also for the health of their classmates and teachers. Covid is very much still around, and we urge parents to please keep sick children home.

Newsletter on website

We remind parents again that the latest issue of the newsletters will be available on the school website in the coming weeks. If you have concerns about your child's image or work being published in this manner, please get in contact with your child's teacher and let them know you would prefer your child's image not to be used online.

Year 4 and Year 5 Camps

As you are aware, at Vermont Primary School, we are very lucky to have students that are responsible and caring and always striving to do their best. We are especially proud when the students are not on site and attend camps and excursions representing our school.

Over the last two weeks we have had the Year 4 Camp at Mt Evelyn and the Year 5 Camp in Ballarat. At both camps, our students were continually praised by camp staff for their impeccable manners and behaviour.  Both camps were a lot of fun and we would like to thank Mr Paul Souter and Mrs Gill Prentice for their organisation, the amazing staff who attended and the wonderful parents who volunteered to attend.
