Flourishing in 2023

'A Day in the Life of our 3/4 Students'

For writing we have been learning how to write a personal recount. Students have been writing a recount of 'The Day in Life of an ANZAC'. We thought we could share with you a day in the life of our 3/4 students.

9:00am - Welcome, prayer and morning roll

Students gather together to start their day calmly with morning meditation and prayer. Each house team has the opportunity to set up prayer and lead their peers in meditation and choose our morning prayer.

9:05 - Mathematics

Our students are working really hard on their mental maths strategies for addition, subtraction and multiplication. We start our lesson with a game aimed at learning an efficient mental maths strategy and this changes every fortnight. The last two weeks we have been developing the mental maths strategy of mentally computation of addition and subtraction without regrouping.

10:00 - Brain Food

Everyday we have a brain break, where the children are able to eat any fresh fruit or vegetables they bring in to fuel their brains!

10:05 - Reading

Our reading block starts with paired fluency each day. This gives students the opportunity to read aloud to the same partner for 3 minutes each and they give each other feedback. This term we have began a novel study of "Darwin's Dragon", we follow the Science of Reading approach.

11:30 - Writing

This term in writing we have been focusing on the genre of a recount. The students have been writing a recount about 'The Day in the Life of an ANZAC'.

12:30 - FBI

This term we are focusing on History and Change. Here is our Wonder Wall of all our wonderings.

2:30 - Class Sport

On Monday afternoon we have our class sport. This term we are learning the skills, tactics and game sense for Football and Netball.

We hope you enjoyed reading about 'A Day in the Life of a 3/4 Student'!
