From The Principal's Desk

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have almost completed 2 weeks of assessments, which will inform our students and teachers how much they have grown in their learning over the past fifteen weeks of school. The teachers will consolidate all of this assessment information and use the day without students on Tuesday June 6th to finalise other data collection. This day will be an Assessment and Report writing day for our teachers and a student free day.

This term we have brought forward the report timeline so that parents and carers receive the report on Monday of the last week of school. This means that you should expect to receive the report on Compass on Monday 19th June.

If you feel the need to see the classroom teacher about the report, you can request a meeting at a time that suits both the teacher and yourself. Wednesday 12th July is our date for Parent teacher interviews (first week of term 3). Students will finish at 1.30pm on this day and the teachers will commence the interviews from 2.00pm - 6.00pm. A booking system will be available via Compass.

Last week we had our netballers in Grade 5-6 participate in the Ballarat and District netball competition. The reports were that the students behaved exemplary and whilst our girls netball team tried hard they were up against some stronger teams. Our mixed team made it to the Grand final and won the event on the day. Congratulations to the 5-6 team and Ms Skrobolak in providing an enjoyable experience for the students.

The Kindness Awards

The Kindness Awards are starting this week (Week 6). What are they? An attempt to get our students back on track and for us to recognise positive behaviour.

All staff will reward kind behaviours with a raffle ticket. These tickets go into a classroom tub and then a big tub. Once a week we will put out an announcement to bring up the tubs, they will be emptied into junior (P-2), middle (3,4) and senior (5,6) tubs. Three names will be drawn from each bigger tub and they will receive a voucher for a free hot choc. Greg is wonderful and has ordered some special cups, will add some marshmallows and generally make a fuss of the winners, who are demonstrating a wonderful triat.

Thanks, Wellbeing Team

Dash updates

The school has applied for an extension to the capacity to the Afterschool hours program - DASH.  Currently we have capacity for 44 students and we have applied for an increase to 65 students. This application was submitted 2 months ago and we are awaiting a response to this in the next week or so.  We anticipated a favourable result and hope to offer more spaces in all of out of school hours programs -  before school, after school and vacation care.

School updates

Mr Columbro will be returning back to 2C in a couple of weeks. In his time away he has been spending time with his wife Brigitte and son Hugo Columbro who was born 3 1/2 weeks ago.  Next term we have Mrs Watson returning back from maternity leave to the school for 2 days a week.  She will be taking 4C on Thursdays and Asian Studies on Fridays.

Mr Zerafa will be taking family leave from this school at the end of the week and we wish Josh and his family all the best in the upcoming birth.
