Year 1 Unit

Hello to all Year One families!

As Term Two draws to a close we would like to congratulate the students on the level of writing skill that has been shown in the Year One narratives. We are beginning to see the emerging use of adjectives and verbs to add interest and meaning to stories. Accurate use of punctuation and spelling of high-frequency words is also becoming evident.

Information reports and learning the features of non-fiction texts have been our reading and writing focus this term and the students have begun to research their dinosaurs and collect information to categorise them under a heading, sub-heading, diagram and text/fact box. To help with this process we have worked with our senior buddy classrooms to access information on the internet and practise taking notes. As you can see from the JU5 photos this was a valuable experience for our students to learn from their older peers. We are looking forward to seeing loads of creative posters and information reports in the coming weeks.

It has become apparent that there are many overdue library books in the Junior Unit. We ask that all families please look for and return any outstanding books before the end of the term. We appreciate your support with this matter. If you are unsure of which library books are at home, please contact your child’s classroom teacher/s.

A reminder to all families about parent-teacher interviews being held in the last week of the term from Monday 19th June to Wednesday 21st June.
