University Open days

Now is the time to start planning your visits to University open days. Following is a list of dates that have been released so far. Some of these universities require pre-registration, so be sure to look at the website for all the details.

VTAC

The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) is the organisation who manage university and (some) TAFE offers. Every student in year 12 needs to open an account with VTAC, so they can submit their University preferences later in the year. Before students can open an account, they will need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Applying for a USI is a quick and simple process. Go to: https://www.usi.gov.au/

Once you have a USI, you can apply for a VTAC account: https://delta.vtac.edu.au/registration/apply

Important VTAC dates are shown below.

Careers and Course Expos

These expos are a fabulous opportunity to get some inspiration for life after school. There are businesses, Universities, TAFES, Defence Force, Emergency Services, Gap Year Programs and so much more all in one enormous expo. We cannot recommend a visit to one of these highly enough. Year 10 Students

Work Experience

In order for your child to make the most of their week on work experience, we are investing some time into preparing them for what to expect and how to maximise their opportunities. A Google Classroom has been established for all students of year 10, where we are uploading resources and video links that might assist your child in successfully negotiating an adult world of work. I encourage you to look through the resources in the classroom with your child, and work with us to best prepare them for their week.

We will also be hosting a number of different workshops at lunchtime for students who might be feeling worried about certain aspects of their week. The details of these are as follows:

  • Workshop 1: Monday, June 5 Room 25. “What to expect on your first day”
  • Workshop 2: Friday, June 9 Room 25. “Lunchroom conversation starters”
  • Workshop 3: Monday, June 12, Room 25. “Asking questions and keeping busy”

If you have any concerns regarding your child’s participation in the work experience program, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any of the careers team: Mrs Kate Dwyer, Ms Melissa Fuller, Ms Cassie Raschle.

Career planning and subject selection

On Thursday, June 15, year 10 students will be participating in a workshop to help prepare them for their subject selection decisions. The workshop will consist of three sessions:

  • Finding your strengths, interests and values
  • Personality quiz
  • Prerequisites and other important subject information

All students will finish the workshop armed with a better idea of how to make good decisions around their subject selections. They will have a summary page of information from the workshop which we encourage you to go through with them.
