A Taste of Africa

Last Friday years F-6 participated in a live performance, “A Taste of Africa”, by Asanti Dance Theatre. It was a highly engaging and informative session. Appiah and Yoga captured the attention of all students right from the beginning with their drumming. They shared information on the many languages spoken across Africa. The temperature in Ghana being 27 degrees each day. Appiah demonstrated a traditional dance whilst wearing a ‘fugu’. The fugu is a handmade garment that weighs around 5kg, worn specially for traditional dances.

The symbolism of the colours of the flag, yellow representing gold, red for the many African Americans who past away on the travel to America, black represents the skin, and green is for the land. Everyone touches the flag after the ’Asefo’ (traditional dance they do to protect the chief when the enemy come to attack) as a sign of peace.

Yoga put on a captivating acrobatic performance, his balance skills were amazing.

And the students joined the act!

Then of course there was drumming!! The student rhythm was impressive. A lot of coordination was also required.

Student comments:

“It’s the best thing ever”

The best thing was “Yoga balancing things on his head and playing the drum”

Kung Fu

Yesterday’s Kung Fu performance was enjoyed by all. The presenter was extremely flexible.

Campaspe Downs Camp

Only a fortnight before we head off to Campaspe Downs. It is so great to have all students in Years 4 to 6 attending. Final information will be sent home on Friday. Looks like it will be a fun packed week of activities.

Around the classrooms

I walked in on Foundation when they were finding ‘blue’ items.

Then I caught them with a magic pot in the classroom.

The Learning Detectives have been researching animals in the Antartic.

It was very serious in the Year 3 & 4 classroom where they were undertaking some testing.
