Condolences to the Good family and wider community
I would like to extend my condolences to the Good family and children today, the entire school staff's thoughts are with them today.
Whole School Assembly
On Monday morning we all met in the stadium for our Mid Term Whole School Assembly. It was pleasing to see some parents attend. It was great to hear what SLC have been up to and gain an update from the Year 10 Work Experience students. Well done to all those who spoke. We have had 13 students present for every period so far this term. Renee was the lucky attendee drawn out. To date this term, 118 students have been acknowledged for 640 positive behaviours. Tamsyn McGurk was the lucky ticket holder.
Report Writing - Pupil Free Day
Just a reminder to families that Friday the 9th of June is a pupil free day.
Mobile Phone Policy
A reminder, that in accordance with the Department’s Mobile Phones Policy issued by the Minister for Education, personal mobile phones must not be used at Charlton College during school hours, including lunchtime and recess, unless an exception has been granted.
Charlton College understands students may bring a mobile device to school, particularly if they are travelling independently to and from school or to extra-curricular activities.
- Charlton College will provide secure storage at the office.
- Students who choose to bring mobile phones to school can securely store them at the office.
- Exceptions to this policy may be applied if certain conditions are met
- When emergencies occur, parents or guardians need to contact their child bycalling the school’s office.
- It is the responsibility of students who bring mobile devices to school to abide by the guidelines outlined in the Charlton College Mobile Device Use policy.
- Before entering the school, students must turn off their mobile devices. They should not be turned on (unless explicitly directed to by a teacher for a specific learning task – after which the device should be turned off immediately) until after the end of the school day.
- If the learning task involves taking photos of other students or filming – this can only occur under the direct supervision of a classroom teacher and with the permission of students involved.
- If students need to contact their parents/carers for any reason, they are to do so through the office.
- In bringing a mobile device to the College, students and their parents are accepting that staff have the right to check the mobile device at any time if there is suspicion of inappropriate images or messages. This is a condition of having the mobile device at school and if students or their parents don’t accept this, they should not bring their mobile phone to school.
- The Mobile Devices Use Policy also applies to students during College excursions, camps and co-curricular activities. On camps and excursions, conditions for the use of mobile devices will be determined by the organiser/teacher in charge and clearly explained to all students, staff and parents involved at the commencement.
