  • Harbour course, handicap start from 1.45pm with three trophies up for grabs. Expect a hot day with a light, southerly breeze.

From the Commodore's Desk

Almost everyone seems to experience the month leading up to the Christmas festive season as a busy time. It has been no less for me and your Board of Management.

 

For Chris, Vice Commodore and Training Director, continuing refinement of Club By-Laws and attention to boats and youngsters involved with dinghy sailing, monthly meeting with volunteer team, dinghy maintenance and training, schools sailing events, travel to Perth for further training including networking with metropolitan clubs, Sailability committee and twice weekly volunteer crewing, plus other meetings related to training and development.

 

Sailing Director Neil has regular Saturday race coordination, safety boat duty, Hansa state championship preparations and meetings, preparations for keelboat training (stay posted for Blokes on Boats) and Friday night twilight sailing coordination.

 

Harold, Facilities Director, has been coordinating maintenance and repairs to jetty, hustling boat owners to correct moorings for safety of both jetty and their boats, preparing figures for club boat usage and hire, repaired deck flooring and general Club building maintenance. 

 

Karen, Communications and Media Director, and husband Kriss have provided popular, tasty meals on Saturday evenings along with an equally popular meat raffle. Both race crews and member families have enjoyed this social gathering whilst watching magnificent views across the harbour at sunset.  

Karen continues to produce our weekly colourful, informative newsletter, whilst finding other functional uses for media technology she has introduced to your Club. Like everyone, she and Kriss are very busy promoting and coordinating the NYE evening to be held at the Club in conjunction with the Albany yacht ballet. NYE fireworks viewing from the harbour – be there - best view of all!

 

Financial Director Russell, as usual, busy ensuring we are informed and reassured our club finances are always in the high black numbers. Matters of finance control and reporting are vital, and often overlooked, amongst a myriad of seemingly small activities occurring daily around your Club. However, Russell has been supporting your Club for a great many years and grateful we are for his expertise and guidance.

 

Sailability Albany coordinator, Mark, seems never to tire of promoting and encouraging people of all abilities to recognise and value what PRSC Sailability offers to the communities in and around Albany.  His networking in Perth with like organisations frequently bring him back to Albany with resources and enthusiasm to apply to what he and the volunteer team have already achieved.

 

Not to be forgotten, but deliberately left until last, is the vital job of our Club Manager, Rod, who has been attending to his managerial duties with failing health. There is not an activity of your Club that Rod does not have knowledge of and his friendly voice on the phone and personal greeting at the door along with opening Club and car door when leaving are hallmarks of many visits to the office. When first visiting the office three years ago, I thought Rod was keen to ensure I left the premises!  But no – just his usual thoughtful, caring nature. Rod is currently on sick leave and our thoughts and prayers are extended to him and Diana.

 

No need to list my activities for the month. Just know I have been busy!

 

So, if you have read to here, you are probably wondering exactly why I have listed just some of the activities of your Board of Management, especially as there are amazingly active teams of volunteers supporting all the various activities at PRSC. The point is that we are all busy maintaining a vibrant sailing, recreational and social environment for you, our members.
