Wellbeing Overview
Wellbeing
At Glen Waverley Primary School our approach to wellbeing is through the ‘You Can Do It’ program.
You Can Do It promotes confidence, persistence, organisation, getting along and resilience. Through all sessions we endeavour to develop our learners to have a robust learning attitude, including a growth mindset, independence and a positive attitude towards risk taking.
During Term One, the Year 6 cohort will explore Respect; one of our four School Values. Through collaborative work in the learning environment learners will explore respect in our school community. Through our Y.C.D.I program we endeavour for learners to discover positives about themselves and in turn, increasing levels of confidence and optimism. With high school approaching quickly we strive to ensure that the transition is seamless and positive. Teaching students crucial life skills including independence, social skills and self-discipline will adequately prepare them for the next chapter of their life. Our Y.C.D.I program is incredibly flexible and versatile as it is structured to be dependent on the current cohort including opportunity for improvement and future learning. Through the Y.C.D.I program we will equip our learners with skills and strategies to feel empowered in their ability to be independent, plan their time and to think first.
To support your child at home, parents and carers are encouraged to consider the parenting section of the Y.C.D.I website (https://www.youcandoiteducation.com.au/parents/) which has resources for effective discipline, stress reduction, motivation, conflict-resolution and relationship-building. There are also resources specific to parents and students. The Y.C.D.I program has been built upon by educators and parents for over 30 years and contains a vast array of resources that are aimed to benefit school aged students. This includes parenting articles, eLearning programs for parents and audio-video programs for older children and adolescents.
We are looking forward to a positive year ahead building resilience, respect and social skills in our learners.
