Deputy Principal

Fire Carriers at St Bede's

St Bede's Primary school acknowledges that we live, worship, are educated and work on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. We recognise the special place and culture of the Aboriginal peoples within Australia. We strive to make Reconciliation  a lived reality within our community.

Welcome back to Term Three. Last term we started working with the Aboriginal Catholic Ministry to begin the Fire Carriers program at St Bede's. This will become another opportunity for leadership for our senior students with the aim of promoting greater understanding of Aboriginal Culture, experiences, history and promote reconciliation. Some of the activities the children at our school will be involved in are; running fundraiser activities for the Opening the Doors Foundation, raising awareness of Indigenous authors, leading the acknowledgment of the Traditional Owners at assemblies, plan Commissioning ceremonies and liaise with local Aboriginal community.

We spoke to the senior students (5/ 6) onsite at the end of last term about joining the Fire Carriers group and shared with them the role description. Students were to consider joining this group over the holidays. We look forward to hearing from the students if they would like to join the program and help lead our school in this initiative.

If your child is interested in joining this group please have them contact me via email; lboyhan@sbedesbn.catholic.edu.au
