STEM

In STEM, students have been busy exploring scientific concepts, through designing and creating! Our focus for the previous fortnight was on Chemical Sciences.

Foundation, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students explored how everyday materials can be physically changed in a variety of ways. Students designed and created a chair for Baby Bear, using only newspaper and tape. Students did a wonderful job bending, twisting and folding their newspaper to create chairs.

Grade 3 and 4 students explored the changes of state between a solid and liquid. Students discussed the process of turning water into ice. Students then researched igloos and learnt some super fun facts. They discovered that it only takes about an hour to build an igloo, so students had a go at designing and creating their own ice-cube igloo!

Grade 5 and 6 students explored the observable properties of solids, liquids and gasses. Students researched the science involved in cooking and discussed what sorts of foods and drinks were solids, liquids and gasses. Students then designed and created a main meal and created a 3D paper model of their meal and labelled the solids, liquids and gasses.
