Assistant Principal's Message

In this current climate we are seeing more technology in the hands of our children than we have ever seen before and with this we need to continue to remain vigilant about the safety of our young people.  It is a department policy that all mobile phones and communication devices are not to be used during the school day.  Mobile phones are to be handed to the classroom teacher at the beginning of the day and collected at the end of the day.  Watches with communication capacity are required to be switched to watch function only or handed to the classroom teachers as well.  Should you need to communicate with your child during the day, please call or email the office who will kindly pass on the message to them rather than trying to make contact via messaging apps or emails on their BYOD device.

Online safety doesn’t just include the use of the internet. A wide range of our students are using messaging services (eg Snapchat) and a range of social media (eg TikTok) that are not recommended for primary aged students.

Please, for your child’s mental health and safety:

  • Get involved
  •  Keep lines of communication open
  • Set some rules - agree and limit the use of mobile phones/ devices.  Check phones together with your child on a regular basis
  •  Consider ‘handing in phones’ 2 hours prior to bedtime
  •  Ensure children have the strategies to know what to do if something makes them feel uncomfortable or upset
  • Report any abusive, threatening or inappropriate incidents to the school if it involves our students.
  • If you want to learn more and feel up-to-date – please visit www.esafety.gov.au for a list of Trusted eSafety Providers.

Healthy Lunch Reminder

A gentle reminder to pack healthy snacks in the children’s lunchboxes. We are noticing lollies and chips slipping into some lunchboxes and consequently the rubbish from the packaging is making it’s way into the playground – remember to always pack ‘nude food’ where possible.
