Principal's Report

David Caughey

Dear Parents, Carers, Families and Students,

I hope that you are well.

Term 3 has so far been another busy Term for the College.

In our previous newsletter, I outlined some of the program changes that will be occurring in Years 9, 10 and 11.

These changes are aimed at strengthening student preparation for the challenges of their final years at school while also boosting aspirations and exposure to the huge range of pathways options that are available.

The term has also included a large focus on course counselling and subject selection for 2023. One of the biggest changes in this area has been the production of a Year 9 course handbook to help our current Year 8 students make informed choices for their program next year.

In addition to the above we have also vastly increased the access for our Year 10 students next year to undertake a Unit 1 and 2 VCE subject or first year of a Vocational Education and Training (VET) certificate. Again, these changes are aimed at boosting student aspiration and exposure to pathways options.

I am pleased to report that many current Year 9 students have followed this application process. These applications will be reviewed alongside a variety of data sources at the College with finalisation of courses set to occur later this term and early Term 4.

I would also like to thank parents for their support of our course counselling and subject selection processes – our ability to work with you as partners in our students education is an important contributing factor in their success.

Parent Opinion Survey 2022

The annual Department of Education and Training (DET), parent opinion survey will be starting in the coming days. The College will be sharing these details with all families. Further details will be shared via email in the coming days.

End of Term events

I would like to take the opportunity to promote some events occurring before the end of Term 3.

Firstly, the College production, ‘Grate Expectations’ will be happening in the last week of term. The details for this play can be found in this newsletter. Students and staff have been working hard to get this show ready to share with the school community. I look forward to experiencing the show with the school community in our wonderful theatre.

Secondly, the 4C’s event is occurring at Bunjil Place on Monday 12th of September. This event features many Secondary Colleges from our region and is a wonderful celebration of cultural dance and ceremony. We have students at the College who have been rehearsing over the last Term and I am looking forward to celebrating their success on the night. Tickets are available via the Bunjil Place website.

I would encourage all parents and families who are Facebook users to follow the College to stay up to date with the huge amount of activities and events that our students and staff are involved in – there are just too many to mention in the newsletter!

Last few days of Term 3

Wednesday 14th September – last day of formal classes

Thursday 15th September – Parent, Student and Teacher conferences. Students are expected to be online with their parents for these sessions. Information regarding bookings will be communicated via compass newsfeed

Friday 16th September – Pupil-free day – no classes operating. Staff professional learning day

Many thanks again for your ongoing support of the College.
