Acknowledgement

Some of our Year 3/4 students will be doing an acknowledgement to Country each Monday morning at 9am over the loud speaker. This week it was Dylan & Izaac from 34B

I would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land on which we are gathered and pay our respects to the elders past, present and emerging of the Bunurong people and extend that respect to other indigenous Australians in the community.

Curriculum Day/Pupil Free Day Reminder Monday August 29th

This coming Monday the 29th of August is a Curriculum Day and a pupil free day for all students.

The staff will be working with renowned Numeracy author Peter Sullivan for the day on Numeracy engagement and strategies to use in the classroom. We are excited to have Peter come into the school and work with staff.

Professional Practice Day - Tuesday September 6th - Pupil Free Day

The Department of Education and Training has provided teachers with three Professional Practice days in 2022. The Professional Practice days provide teachers with release from their scheduled duties to focus on the improved delivery of high quality teaching and learning. For Term 3, 2022, the Department has provided schools with the option to hold each teacher’s allocated Professional Practice Day on the same day for all staff. This is to enable the most effective and efficient use of this day. The work undertaken on these days will be consistent with Departmental and school priorities including preparation, assessment of student learning, collaboration, curriculum and professional development. As a result, we have scheduled our school’s Professional Practice Day for Tuesday September 6th. Students will therefore not be required to attend school on this day.

Book Week

This week we enjoyed the activities of Book Week. The Book Character Parade and the book sales were all a huge success. It gives parents the opportunity to see what they are doing in the school. Thankyou to Mrs Douglas and Mrs Waugh for coming into school on Sunday afternoon and setting it up. The character parade was a lot of fun for the children and the staff although the weather wasn’t great. Mr Bach read “I Want A Puppy” to the assembly. It was acted out by Hudson and Nicole from Year 6. All children had a chance to strut their stuff in front of the assembly and show off their amazing array of costumes. Thank you to Mrs Douglas for organising such a fun filled week. A final thank you once again to staff who provided activities and led the character parade.

Working Bee

There will be a working bee at the school on Sunday September 11th from 10am to 2pm. This is an opportunity to get important jobs completed. There is a lot of work around the school to do and the more families we have in attendance the more jobs we can tick off. There is a flyer out on Dojo for people to sign up and contribute.

District Sports

We had a lot of our students participating in District Athletics on Thursday at Duncan McKinnon Athletics Track. They did a fantastic job of competing in a variety of track and field events in weather that was pretty ordinary. Thankyou to Mrs Robinson, Ms Doutch and Ms Boucher for supervising the children on the day. Great sportspersonship was shown by all students throughout the day.

NAPLAN Results

Next week the National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) results will come out for all schools. All Year 3 and 5 students sat the tests in Term 2 for Reading, Grammar and Punctuation, Writing, Numeracy and Spelling. The results will be used to plan future programs around the strengths and weaknesses of the students. All Year 3 and 5 parents will receive individual results for their children.

Child Safe

All Victorian organisations that provide services or facilities for children including those that are funded and/or regulated by government are required to comply with the Child Safe Standards which aim to protect children from child abuse.

What are the Child Safe Standards?

There are 11 Child Safe Standards. These Standards commenced on 1 July 2022 and replace the Child Safe Standards that were established in 2016. The Child Safe Standards aim to protect children and young people, by requiring organisations to put policies, procedures and processes in place to prevent and respond to abuse. They aim to make keeping children and young people safe a key focus of organisations in Victoria. The Child Safe Standards help organisations to:

Promote the safety of children
Prevent child abuse
Ensure effective processes are in place to respond to and report allegations of child abuse
Encourage children to ‘have a say’, especially on issues that are important to them or about decisions that affect their lives.

The Child Safe Standards

Child Safe Standard 1 - Relevant entities establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued.
Child Safe Standard 2 - Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture.
Child Safe Standard 3 - Children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
Child Safe Standard 4 - Families and communities are informed, and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
Child Safe Standard 5 - Equity is upheld and diverse needs respected in policy and practice.
Child Safe Standard 6 - People working with children and young people are suitable and supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing values in practice.
Child Safe Standard 7 - Processes for complaints and concerns are child focused.
Child Safe Standard 8 - Staff and volunteers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children and young people safe through ongoing education and training.
Child Safe Standard 9 - Physical and online environments promote safety and wellbeing while minimising the opportunity for children and young people to be harmed.
Child Safe Standard 10 - Implementation of the Child Safe Standards is regularly reviewed and improved.
Child Safe Standard 11 - Policies and procedures document how the relevant entity is safe for children and young people.

Fathers Day Stall

The Fathers Day stall is on next Friday September 2nd. Our wonderful Parents Committee will be supervising the children. Teachers will take their class over to the hall to select their gift which has a maximum of $5 on them. Orders need to be placed via QKR up until 29th August! No late orders will be accepted! There are no cash sales.

Cut down on Litter

We actively encourage our students to avoid bringing packets and plastic wrappers (Nude Food) to school. It cuts down on litter and is much better for the environment. A named container is perfect.

School Values

The children will continue working closely together through the coming winter months. This is a great time to reinforce our school values of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, COURTESY and CO-OPERATION with all children. Filling someone’s bucket of kindness should be a priority for all children and adults. Helping others is to be encouraged by everyone and can be done in a variety of ways. It is great to see our Year 6 children looking after the younger children out in the yard.
