Driving Safely –
Wearing Seatbelts in cars.
We have noticed that some of the children that are picked up at the end of the day are getting into cars with parents/guardians and not putting their seat belt on before the car drives away. This is against the law and is unsafe for the people in the car.
People are much safer travelling in a car if they are wearing seatbelts. Wearing seatbelts is the law, you and your passengers must use them.
Always ask your passengers to put on their seatbelts. Explain that it’s safer, and that you could lose your licence and be fined if they don’t. The fine for not wearing a seat belt is $380 and will cost the driver of the car demerit points on their licence.
Remember that if the police stop you, you will be fined if your passengers, including children are not wearing appropriate seatbelts or child restraints.
If you have children in your car, you must make sure they are safe. They are much safer in cars if they're in approved child restraints or, depending on their size, if they're wearing seatbelts that are fitted properly.
Children are safer when travelling in the back seat, so keep their safety a priority and buckle them up in the back seat.
