Hello Everyone,
I have to start by saying what a fabulous Book Week Dress-up Parade we had last Friday!
It was great to see so many students participate, as well as hear about some of their favourite book characters. There was a mix of home-made and bought costumes, with some classes making some character masks to ensure that no-one would feel left out.
It was also wonderful to see so many parents, guardians and other school community members coming along to watch the parade and to cheer the students as they walked around!
Respectful Behaviour
Parents, carers, staff and students can help keep our school community safe, supportive and respectful.
Deer Park West Primary encourages our school community to engage with and utilise our school values of Respect, Integrity, Pride, Resilience and Collaboration.
We value the process of working together to promote the values and to assist those who may have forgotten that these values apply. We value our school community members who are ‘upstanders’ (someone who will call out disrespectful behaviour).
I have recently had some disrespectful behaviour brought to my attention and am in the process of working to resolve the issue.
Storytime and Foundation Transition 2023
Storytime has been happening on a Thursday afternoon for a majority of this term. Today will be the last session for this term, as Mrs McLeod will be away for the next two weeks.
Our full transition program will begin next term – only 4 weeks away! We are looking forward to meeting all of the new little people who will become our 2023 Foundation students. If you have a child (or children) at home who is eligible to start school next year please ensure you enrol them as soon as possible.
Excursions and Incursions
We have had busy week with excursions and incursions this week.
Today (Thursday), our Foundation level students have been on an excursion to Sovereign Hill and our Year 1 students to the Chinese Museum. I can’t wait to hear all about their experiences!
Yesterday, our Year 5 students had an incursion called ‘Market Manoeuvres’. This was a games-based program to help the students to understand economics markets, how supply and demand affects the market, etc. When I went over to see what was happening, the students were so engaged in the activities and looked like they were having lots of fun. They were able to grasp some complex understandings around supply and demand, far better after these specific activities.
R U OK? Day
Next Thursday, the 8th September, is R U OK? Day.
R U OK? is a harm prevention charity that encourages people to stay connected and have conversations that can help others through difficult times in their lives.
We encourage our school community to take some time to check in with someone they care about during the next week, at least.
