PREP

It has been a busy part of the term for the Prep students and teachers. We have continued our learning in all areas, focussing on addition and subtraction in maths. We have used counters to model addition problems and have written number sentences to match. In Play Based Learning, we have been learning about places that are important to us to eat, shop and exercise.

Book Week was very exciting for us too. We made crafts about one of our favourite stories, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and our big page is on display in the windows of the Gym. We even had the Year 6 classes visit us to read the story called Stellarphant, which was about an elephant who wanted to be an astronaut. The Yr6 students helped us make a craft about the story.

Year 1

The year 1s participated in a fun incursion called Wild Australian Animals.

We saw many animal that live in the various Australian habitats, blue tongue lizards, fruitbat, baby crocodile, mopoke owl and many more. We learnt what these animals eat and do in order to keep safe in their habitats.

Year 2

The Year 2’s pleasantly welcomed the arrival Spring and being able to enjoy the beautiful sunny weather and playing with the blossom trees near the houses. The petals have been falling like snowflakes. It’s hard to believe that it is almost the end of Term 3, and the holidays will be upon us soon.

As the days are cold and often unpredictable, please continue to remember to send your child to school with their school jacket, jumper, or windcheater. Remember school jackets can’t be worn in the classroom, but jumpers and windcheaters can. Please Don’t forget to find your child’s school hat for Term 4 and ensure your child’s name or surname is clearly labelled on each part of their uniform. Continue to send your child with their water bottle each day so they can hydrate throughout the day.

Curriculum Overviews:

Reading: Students have enjoyed participating in the Literacy Week activities and attending the Story Quest live performance in the school gym and dressing up as a character from some of their favourite books and buddy activities with the Year 3’s and 4’s.

Book Quest Performance in the Gym                                       Buddy literacy activities

Writing: Students made cards in writing for Father’s and special persons Day. The students have been having fun with researching and writing information reports and focusing on writing an introduction, title, subtitles, paragraphs of information and their conclusion. Students have been able to choose their own animal to write about and have been researching fun facts about their animal including, their habitat, appearance, diet and communication.

Maths:

We have been looking at multiplicative thinking both combining equal groups and sharing a collection of things into equal groups. This is often a difficult area for most students especially the division part and worded problems. With worded problems students need lots of practice with what the question is asking them to do. Students have been modelling using such as using materials such as counters, making arrays, adding the number repeatedly, adding equal groups sharing and breaking down the number into easier groups. We have been using strategies such as skip counting, repeat addition, fact families, modelling using materials and drawing pictures.

Science: Students have continued to find about forces including push, pull and gravity.
