Athletics

Preparations are well underway for the Southern SATIS Athletic Carnival on Tuesday September 6.  The team has been training hard on Monday afternoons at the Domain and we look forward to seeing the boys represent the College with pride against the best in the South in an attempt to defend the Junior Boys Shield.  The team to compete at the State SATIS Carnival in Launceston on Saturday September 17 will be selected following the Southern SATIS Carnival.

Soccer

With plenty of challenging weather of late resulting in some cancelations and ground closures, it is fantastic to see our eight soccer teams doing battle each week in the SSATIS soccer rosters. The teamwork, camaraderie and sportsmanship on display is admirable.

Regional High School Basketball Championships Trials

The College will be conducting trials in order to select representative teams to compete in the Regional High School Basketball Championships on Monday September 5 in the Edmund Rice Hall.

  • Year 7&8: 3.30 pm - 4.30 pm
  • Year 9&10: 4.30 pm - 5.30 pm

Conducted by Basketball Tasmania, the Regional High School Basketball Championships will be conducted over the weekend of November 12-13 in Hobart. SVC will be entering four teams as follows:

Division A1 x Year 7/8 team (10 players max)1 x Year 9/10 team (10 players max)

Division B1 x Year 7/8 team (10 players max)1 x Year 9/10 team (10 players max)

 

The top three in Division A in each age group will qualify to compete in the State High School Basketball Championships over the weekend of November 26-27 in Launceston.

Volleyball Development

Up to 35 students from Year 7-10 have been participating in a newly created Volleyball Development Program. Under the guidance of Mr Aaron Tan and some expect guest coaches, the boys are developing and refining their skills ahead of the Term 4 SSATIS Volleyball roster.

Sailing Development

With some challenging weather, a small group of students have been braving the elements on Sunday afternoons to learn the art of sailing.  Under the expert tutelage of Br Peter Flint and Bruce Woods, along with some of our more experiences student sailors, the boys have been having a blast and even learning a few capsize techniques.

Rowing

Winter training is well underway and Director of Rowing, Oliver Wilson-Haffenden has the students all fired up for a big regatta season ahead. More information regarding upcoming Talent ID and Testing days will be published shortly.
