Mr Franzin and I have had the pleasure of meeting some fine young men as we have been working our way through our Grade 3 enrolment interviews for next year. We are excited to welcome the boys and their families to our SVC community as they begin their schooling with us. These boys will also have the exciting opportunity to stay through to Year 12, graduating in 2032!

Book Week: ‘Dreaming with Our Eyes Open’

This week we have been celebrating Book Week. On Tuesday our Kinder students had the opportunity to dress in a costume and parade around their playground with their book, with families members in attendance. There was great excitement best dressed was awarded to ‘The Hulk’: Mason Chandler and runner up was Benjamin for his Solar System inspired outfit complete with cloak.

On Wednesday morning, Preps and Kinders had a special visit for the Year 7 girls from St Mary's College who came to read picture books with our boys. Mr Messer, aka 'green crayon', also popped over to say hello to the boys.

Tomorrow morning will be our culminating event. Boys are encouraged to dress in a themed costume for our parade which will be between 8.45 am – 9.00 am. Prizes will be awarded for a member of each class and a runner-up. Afterwards in the classrooms boys will be ‘dropping everything and read’ until fruit break! 

Parents & Friends Association Silent Disco

There is great excitement building for the Silent Disco which is tomorrow evening, Friday August 26 in our SVC Junior School Hall. Preps will have their event first between 2.00 pm and 2.45 pm, then in the evening we will have our Grade 3-4s between 6.00 pm and 7.00 pm, followed by the 5-6s between 7.30 pm – 8.30 pm. Please RSVP via EdSmart if you haven't yet done so.

 

There is a $5.00 entry fee which will be payable at the door by cash. The P&F will also be selling $5.00 showbags (also cash only) containing a bottle of water, a glow stick, a packet of chips and a freddo frog.

Father’s Day Breakfast

Preps, Grade 3 – 6: Friday September 2 from 7.30am

We are looking forward to our annual Father’s Day breakfast on Friday September 2. Bacon and egg burgers and coffee will all be available.

 

In conjunction with our Father’s Day Breakfast, the Parents and Friends will be selling football margin tickets for the AFL Grand Final. Margin tickets will be $20 each.  Anyone who has the winning margin at the end of the AFL Grand Final will win $400.  If you have the margin at quarter time, half time or three-quarter time, you will win $50.  With all tickets sold, the P&F will raise $1,450. 

 

Payments can be made via card or cash will be accepted. All money raised by the P&F is put back into resources for our boys. Your support of this fundraiser is greatly appreciated.

 

Father’s Day Breakfast for our Kindergarten fathers will be on Wednesday August 31 from 7.30 am in the Early Years area.

Play equipment

Recently new play equipment has been purchased for the playground and hall. The Junior School boys have raised the funds for this equipment themselves through the purchase of ice-creams which the Mini Vinnies group have been selling at lunchtimes. The SRC are also selling hot chocolates on Mondays and Friday mornings for $2.00. these funds will go towards more equipment for the playground. 

Chess

We are now offering Chess on a Friday afternoon between 3.00 pm and 3.50 pm. The link to register for this was sent out through Edsmart this week. It commences tomorrow and will be offered for six weeks. Currently we have about 15 people enrolled with more spots available. If you need any further details please contact the school office.

Bunnings Excursion

On Wednesday, the Kinder class travelled to Bunnings Warehouse Glenorchy where employee Mel showed us around the store, and we did some building in the workshop.   The boys had fun trying out the ride-on lawn mowers, mixing paints, smelling herbs and holding worms. 

Choomalaka Festival and Feast

On the back of our successful, and inaugural Choomalaka festival in 2021, the event will be taking place again on Friday September 23. More information will be shared with you all in the coming weeks, including on the following Choomalaka newsletter page.
