HEIGHT OF THE FLAGPOLE

Today we went out to the flagpoles to apply our trigonometry skills and determine the height. We used many different strategies to find the answer, we estimated the results using a clinometer, and we found that the flagpole height was 9.8m.

Today's  activity was fun because we got to visually see how we’d use trigonometry in real life and it was good experiencing how to calculate these equations with physical objects.

Interview skills

Recently, year 9 and 10 EAL students from Sydenham and Kings Park were lucky to be given the opportunity to attend an excursion to the city to improve their interview skills. The Australian Business Council Network facilitated the Interview 2 Impress program and mentors were provided by UBS Investment Bank. The program took place on the sixteenth floor of UBS building and we had a one-hundred-and-eighty-degree view of the city. After admiring the view, we got down to business of learning valuable interview skills. Students were placed in groups of 2 or 3 per mentor. The mentors shared their personal interview experiences with us on what it takes to get a job. After that, we were given various scenarios to respond to that would help develop our interview skills and confidence. We are now aware of what employers expect from applicants when attending interviews. The bank even provided a delicious lunch for us and at the end of the program we distributed mementoes to the facilitator and mentors as a small token of our appreciation. Finally, thank you Mr Ata and Mr Heinrich for your encouragement and support throughout the day.
