Year 3 & 4

Aleisha, Coen, Emily, Natalie & Rikki

Hello Year 3 & 4 Families,

Welcome to Term 4! We can not believe how fast this year has gone and we are so proud of our students and the progress they have made, especially in regards to showing our school values. We ended Term 3 on a high note with students enjoying our Melbourne geography walking tour excursion. All students were well behaved on this day and did an excellent job of representing our school. This term is going to be busy with lots of exciting things planned for our students.

Camp Update and Final Reminders

All students are required to bring their own water bottle to camp, please ensure students bring this filled with water only. Students who require medication on camp must drop the medication off in person to Ms Hyde who will be set up  in 3/4A portables from 9am onwards on Monday. As we are departing for camp at approximately 9.30am, students will attend school at the normal drop off time. We will return from camp at approximately 2.30pm so students are able to be picked up from 2.30pm onwards (with normal dismissal time at 3.10pm). If your child is not attending camp they are still required to attend school as normal. Please speak to your child's classroom teacher if you have any final questions about camp.

Learning Together

In Reading, students have started learning how to synthesise. This skill involves combining prior knowledge with new knowledge learnt as the students read through a text. Students have been practising this by reading fiction and non-fiction books. We have also consolidated our knowledge of nouns, verbs and adjectives and why they are important in texts.

In Writing, students have moved into the genre of narrative writing. Last week our students enjoyed making a bank of interesting characters and settings to include in their own stories. Students have been learning about the correct structure of a narrative and what should be included to make it more enjoyable for a reader. All students wrote an excellent first narrative and we are looking forward to reading their next imaginative writing piece.

In Math, we have been consolidating our knowledge of place value. Students have been practising making two, three and four-digit numbers using MAB as well as partitioning these numbers. All of our students have been engaged and enjoy the hands-on activities that we are doing to consolidate our place value knowledge. We have also continued to work on telling the time to the minute and converting it into 24 hour time.

In Inquiry, we have started our new unit titled ‘Feathers, Fur or Leaves?’ Throughout this topic, students will learn about living and non-living things and the life cycles of animals and plants. We have already started off the unit with some exciting and hands-on activities and will have an incursion later this term to support our learning.

In SEL, students learnt how to make SMART goals and wrote their own goals for literacy, numeracy and social/ emotional. We also did a lesson on  teamwork to understand how to work in a team and why it is important to be a good team member.

Reminders

SunSmart School

It’s Term 4 and that means we are entering the warmer months of the year and the sun will be out in force. Our school’s policy is that for Terms 1 and 4 all students will be needing to wear hats when out in the yard, regardless of whether the sun is shining brightly - this is because we are aiming to reinforce positive sunsmart practices and it helps to protect us from harmful UV rays. We suggest students keeping their hats in their tubs at school, not bags, to limit forgetting them. If you would like to wash them we recommend it being done on Fridays.

Uniform Reminder

We kindly ask to ensure that all students are wearing the correct uniform at all times, this includes the school hats and jackets and black shoes. If your child is wearing an undershirt we also ask that it be a black or darker colour to match our wonderful school uniform. Please ensure all uniforms have your child’s name and grade on them.

Tissues

Teachers would appreciate it if families could please donate a box of tissues to our classrooms. Thank you.

iPad and Headphones

Please ensure that your child brings their iPad to school everyday, fully charged. Can we also ask that each student has their own pair of headphones to go with their device and brings them daily.
