Being a bucket filler

Last Wednesday the Preps read the story "Have you filled a bucket today"  We had some great discussions on what makes makes a bucket filler and how we can not be a bucket dipper and empty from other buckets. We made buckets to stick on the back of our chairs, and then we all put lots of messages and drawings on paper to put in everyones buckets. It was wonderful how well the preps took on the message of being kind to others, and how excited they got when they put a message in someone else's bucket- showing great empathy.

It is always a nice surprise to see kind messages fill our buckets each day!

Physical Education News

The Yarraville-Seddon Eagles Football Club set-up an enjoyable hands-on footy clinic for our grade 3/4s on Wednesday. The coaches were on hand to work through some fun and intense passing, kicking and marking drills, with the main focus on student participation and engagement.

If your child would like to join the club, please see the flyer attached to this newsletter.

5/6- Academy of Mary Immaculate Year 7 Visit

This week we had some special visitors from Academy of Mary Immaculate. Stella and Lexi (St Augustine's graduates of 2022) came to speak to our year 5/6 girls about the transition to Year 7. The girls were accompanied by Ms. Karen, one of year 7 teacher who answered questions about year 7 and Secondary School life. Stella and Lexi spoke about the range of subjects they learn, sporting and recreational clubs available, ways to take public transport to school and homework. It was such a nice opportunity for the 5/6 girls to think about Secondary School and realise that it is not as scary as it might seem.

Senior STEM News

The final touches are being added for our Westgate Bridge Documentary.  These photos were taken from the school roof, directly above the Year 5/6 classrooms. Please save the date, Wednesday 21st June '23, for the evening premiere at the Sun Theatre Yarraville. All are welcome to attend but please keep in mind this documentary may be triggering for some and is not recommended for young children.

Year 1/2

This week to celebrate the end of the term and Easter, the Year 1/2s spent some time making some Easter crafts. We have really enjoyed rehearsing and then performing our Easter Sunday liturgy for our school community. It has been such a busy term for all of us in Year 1/2 and we would like to thank our families for their support throughout the term. We wish all our parents and families a wonderful and safe Easter break.

Year 3/4

Last week we had Adam (Caellum & Xavier's dad) come to the school to run a fitness session for us. This was part of our inquiry topic for the term. We had so much fun moving our bodies but we were exhausted afterwards! We would like to thank Adam so much for taking time out of his day to help us feel the benefits of being active.

Classroom learning

In the last few weeks of school we have been working on our Subtraction skills. We enjoyed playing a subtraction game that we named 'Slice & Dice'. Students played in small groups or partners and the first player to get to zero from 9999 was the winner.

Paraliturgy

The last few weeks 3/4's have been busy practising for the Easter Paraliturgy. They performed the stories of The Passover, Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, and Jesus is betrayed by Judas and arrested. We thank you so much to all the families for helping us prepare costumes and for coming along and joining us on Tuesday.

We wish you a relaxing and safe Easter break with your family.
