From the School Council

Parents and Friends Association | 2023 Council  |  Council Member Profiles

Wow, that term literally flew by and here we are heading into the Easter holidays.  I hope all of our new members of the college, whether that be students or families, are now feeling fully settled in and part of the Cheltenham community.

The elections for the new School Council have just been completed and the new council elected and roles determined. Welcome back to Susannah and Etty who have been re-elected. We bid farewell to Tobias Swales as one of the student representatives and welcome Campbell Hall in his place.  Tobias has been a stalwart of the council for several years now so we would like to publicly thank him for his commitment and dedication to ensuring students’ views are represented at all council meetings. Thanks Tobias.  We would also like to thank the parent candidates who expressed interest in joining Council. Thank you for stepping forward and we hope you may be able to spend some time helping out as co-opted (non-elected) members or as part of future councils – we are always seeking extra hands and any parent or interested person can volunteer at any time.

School Master Plan – One of the key things that came out of our initial meeting of the year was the desire to set up a sub-committee of the council whose purpose was to scope, innovate and prepare initial ideas for future buildings within the college.  In particular, we will be working with government authorities to fulfil the Andrews’ Government commitment for $7.3M funding for Chelt.Sec for facilities improvement. We are excited to be able to deliver an outstanding resource for the College.  To this end, we are looking for community members who could contribute to this committee, especially if you possess skills or experience in planning, architecture or building, political lobbying, and/or project management.  Please reach out if you could assist in any way.

Just another reminder, our Open Night is on Wednesday 3rd May. Please help the college by:

  •  Spreading the word to prospective students and families.
  •  Assisting with prize donations for the evening.

NAPLAN testing has just finished and a massive shout out to the students (and parents) of Years 7 and 9.  There was a great turn out and initial reports suggest it ran very smoothly. Results will be in soon and these help the school, and the state, measure how students are progressing against educational standards.  Well done everyone.

Parents and Friends Association – We continue to seek interested parents and friends to join the Cheltenham Secondary College Parents and Friends Association (PFA).  We are not looking for you to single-handedly run all sorts of complex meetings or events. We simply want the PFA to have a large group of individuals who are willing to help out at any fundraising or school events.  We want it to be a fun group of people rather than a burden and grind for those involved.

If you are interested in being added to our mailing list, please complete the PFA Expression of Interest survey.  To find out more contact Sharon: pfcheltsec@gmail.com
