Pivot Surveys

In 2023 all Classroom Teachers at Cheltenham Secondary College will be selecting at least one class for each subject that they teach and conducting Pivot Surveys with that class.

Pivot Surveys ask students 25 questions about the class environment under the categories of Classroom Environment, Instruction and Relationships.

Pivot questions are designed to give students a voice about what is happening in the classroom. The survey helps teachers to understand what they are doing well and also how they can make the classroom an even better place to be. For each question, students are required to give a rating out of five. A student's individual survey responses are anonymous, the only thing the teacher will see is the class average of the rating for each question. Once the survey period has closed, and this data becomes available, teachers will ‘close the loop’ and share these averages with the class.

Pivot Surveys opened for some classes in English, Humanities, Mathematics and Science on Friday 31 March. This cycle remains open until Friday 12 May. If selected to do a survey, students will be given time (10-15 minutes) to complete these in class. Teachers will then survey the same students again in late Term 3 to see if there have been any changes in responses. This will allow Teachers to check whether the changes that they have made to their classroom practice have had the intended effects.

The remaining subjects  Health/PE, Languages, Performing Art, Technology and Visual Arts will survey students for the first time early in Term 3 and then again early Term 4.

Attitudes to School Survey

The Attitudes to School Survey is administered to all students in Years 4-12 at Victorian Government schools. It has versions for students from Years 4 to 6, Years 7 to 9, Years 10 to 12.

For 2023, the Attitudes to School Survey will be offered to students to complete online during school time from 8 May to 9 June 2023.  Further information regarding the survey will be emailed out to parents/guardians and will also be posted on the Compass newsfeed at the beginning of Term 2.
