Year 7 have been learning about Children’s Day in Japan. This is a day where Japanese people celebrate the health, happiness and strength of their children. On the day, families will fly koinobori (carp fish shaped banners) outside their homes, and display replica samurai helmets in their homes. In class, we enjoyed decorating our own koinobori and making origami kabuto (samurai helmets).
Year 8 students have started Visual Arts for the first time at Camden High School. The introductory unit challenged students to consider what art is and why art is important. Students have been learning about portraiture and the works of artist Pablo Picasso. They have completed a series of experimental drawings that have led to the development of a Picasso inspired painting.
Year 10 Visual arts students have been introduced to 3D media. They have developed a clay pot that focuses on hand building techniques. Students have explored the role that signs and symbols play in communicating meaning to an audience. They have used this to develop their own visual language that reflects various aspects of their identity and culture. Once their vessels are complete, students will use a range of surface treatments to resolve their works.

Our intermediate Theatresports team competed at Normanhurst Boys High School on Friday 5th May. They showcased their improvisation skills across four rounds of games, finishing strong with three 4s in their score, out of a possible 5. Although they didn’t progress to the semi-final round, they represented the school with pride and they are encouraged to continue developing their skills.
Rehearsals continue for our school production! The cast are working hard and it’s wonderful to see their skills and characterisation develop as the weeks progress. Watch this space for upcoming information regarding ticket sales in Term 3!
