SHAPE Exhibition

On the 23rd March, the Design & Technology and Industrial Technology students attended the ‘Shape Exhibition’ excursion at the Ultimo Powerhouse Museum in the city.

The ‘Shape Exhibition 2022’ displayed a selection of major projects from the Higher School Certificate Design and Technology, Industrial Technology, and Textiles and Design courses. It showcased innovative and creative solutions developed by young designers. In the exhibition there was a selection of products designed by HSC students along with a blurb about the product, the portfolio and the design process. The products were made from materials such as timber, textiles, multimedia and metalwork. A design that students found interesting and inspiring was a surfboard rail protective cover created by a DT student. She designed a solution for damage to surfboards during transportation while considering the sustainability and strength of the materials.

In another section of the exhibition there was a room full of HSC Textile designs. There were many creative, fun and ingenious designs that displayed different designs of clothing made by Year 12 students; all of which had an inspiring or interesting story behind why they were made, as well as different materials such as a hessian coffee bag! There was also a room full of Industrial Technology designs. These were very impressive; Mr O’Brien was at a loss for words! It included detailed wooden patterns, musical instruments made of timber and even more. Our students learned a lot about what it takes to design a functional and practical product. The excursion gave students the opportunity to discuss with each other the designs, the design process and the creativity of the DT/IT students from the 2022 class.
