Mathematics News

Term 2 has been pretty busy as we continue to push through the assessment period. We are allowing extra time for revision and reflection to assist students achieve their best and manage their time appropriately. Students are reminded that they are expected to bring all required equipment, including a scientific calculator, to every Mathematics lesson. We are currently recommending the Casio fx-82AU Plus II Second Edition for student use.

Year 10 classes are heading into their subject selections for 2024 and their maths teacher will be discussing their options during class so students can make informed decisions about which course suits them best. If any year 10 student requires further advice on this matter they should speak to their maths teacher or any other member of the Mathematics faculty.

For Year 11 in 2024 we will be offering the new Numeracy course for the first time. This course will be offered alongside the existing Mathematics Standard and Mathematics Advanced courses. The new Numeracy course focuses on developing basic numeracy skills and is tailored to students who do not need the higher level Mathematics courses but wish to be confident in working with real-world problems.

We are currently planning an incursion for our Year 7 students later in the year, probably in Term 3, where they will be able to participate in hands-on activities designed to engage and boost their confidence. Details will be provided soon.
