Nice to know

This is your Captain speaking

Hey everyone, College Captains speaking.

We asked Ms Terry to partake in this newsletter so we could communicate with everyone in a different way, and let you all know what has been happening in our meetings, what we are planning with the school etc.

First off, we want to start by formally introducing ourselves. We are Matilda, Maia, Liam and Eden, your 2023 College and Vice Captains! All four of us have been attending St Helena since Year 7, and live local to the school. We are so honoured to have this role and look forward to implementing all the ideas we have had building up.

We are so excited to also announce the opening of the new Wellbeing Hub. It has opened officially in the last week, as a space for ALL students to sit back and relax. Come in to play with the dogs, colour in, or just take a break. We are so beyond excited to be using this space for our meetings and can’t wait to watch the rest of the school community join us. The Hub is in T7 – where the old textiles room used to be, just off from the courtyard near the T building.

We have also arranged for a kettle to be put in the Year 12 Common Room!

Year Level Captain interviews have also commenced in the week. Good luck to all those who have an interview, we are looking forward to working with you once selected.

Thank you all for taking the time to read a little bit about us, and we can’t wait to hear from you all soon.

Please reach out to any of us if you have any questions or ideas for the school!

Sport @ St Helena

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the sports section.

During the last couple of weeks our Senior School sports team competed in the term 1 sports round robins.

Our first round of Senior School sport was very successful! Well done to our Girls Basketball, Girls Table Tennis and Boys Cricket who all came out on top and have made it through to next round (NMR)!

Our Boys Basketball teams also had a very successful day but falling short to Eltham High  in the final game.

All three Volleyball teams were also smashing it finishing second to Eltham (and ourselves)!

The day overall was a great success and our teams represented us well!

A big thanks to the following staff who coached us on the day- Erin Milton - David Dang - Adrian Beadles - Jayke Greenard -Nic Drummond -Jodie WiIliams -Sarah Ryan -Josh Marchbank

Mr Gin:  Hard Quiz "Battle of the Duds"

 ABC HD (Wednesday 15/3/23 @ 8pm)

Win, lose or draw; “you’ve gotta be in it to win it”, so goes the saying coined by the late Jack Little, a famous Ch 9 sports commentator from the 60’s.

By now, it should be well-known to the SHSC community that Mr Gin enjoys the excitement of participating in a TV game show. Mr Gin will be making his 5th game show appearance in 18 months on a forthcoming episode of ABC Hard Quiz entitled the “Battle Of The Duds”.

Mr Gin has grown a sizeable fan base not only for his general trivia knowledge but also for his comedic presence. Fans have dissected Mr Gin’s performances on Fandom Wiki, and he also appears on the worldwide entertainment database IMDb.

It's only fitting that in this Lunar Year of the Rabbit, that Mr Gin should once again appear on Hard Quiz. Through vigorous audition processes, Mr Gin is acknowledged in the quiz show arena as Australia’s expert on Bugs Bunny and also the modern singer/songwriter, Carole King.

So does Mr Gin break “the hoo-doo” and take out the “Battle Of The Duds” trophy? Did Mr Gin have a lucky rabbit’s foot pinned to the inside of his iconic retro 1990s Rivers multi-striped jumper.

Win, lose or draw Mr Gin says that he is overjoyed to be invited back onto Hard Quiz, even if the large hole drilled into the base of the trophy prevents him from using it to demonstrate critical Measurement principles to his Yr 7 Mathematics class. As for pinning a rabbit’s foot anywhere, in Mr Gin’s opinion, being a Science teacher, this suggestion is in very “paw” taste indeed.

PS: Watch this space! In the next few months, Ms Hulsen, Ms Ryan and Mr Gin will be appearing on a new Ch 7 quiz show called “The 1% Club” that will be hosted by internationally renowned Australian comedian, Jim Jefferies. Mr Gin is also rumoured to be returning to the big black chair on SBS Mastermind in the very near future
