Dear Members of the Mordialloc College Community,

Well we are now over the halfway mark for Term 1 and what a busy start to the year it has been at the college. It has been terrific to see many of our students seize all the opportunities that are offered at our College.

Mordialloc College Student Council

All members of the Year 12 Subcommittees and the Middle and Senior School Captains attended the prestigious Youth Leadership Academy Annual Conference, held on Monday 27 February at the Melbourne Convention Centre.  Our students were amongst thousands of leaders from schools across the state, hearing inspirational speeches and engaging in worthwhile workshops to hone their leadership skills. A great day was had by all.

New Outdoor Courts

Finally, after a few too many weather related delays, our new courts are now open and proving to be very popular. Our PE staff members are thrilled to have more resources for their lessons, after nearly two years of outside court absence. Lunchtimes have proven very busy and we have one court available each for Years 7 and 8,  9 and 10, and 11 and 12, respectively. We are also trialling a girls only day and will monitor patronage for its success.

We strive for all of our students to enjoy the benefits of these stunning new additions to our College’s resources.

Clubs

Members of our hard working staff are currently running clubs which can be attended by any of our students, either before school or at lunchtime. As you can see below, the range is diverse, spanning a running club before school to a chess club during lunch, and  including a gardening club and a debating club. There really is something for everyone. This is a great way for students to meet new people and make new friends with similar interests. Please have a chat to your child about attending a club.

Chess Championship

The Chess Club recently held a ‘stimu’ (this is chess for competition as I recently found out!). We had over 50 students attending this stimu at lunchtime which was presided over by International Chess Master Leonid Sandler. What a great event and we thank Mr Tze for organising it.

MyMahi

This year at the College as an important part of our Homegroup, Mentoring and Career Programs all students have access to a software named myMahi.

This is a great resource that allows students to build a CV, look and apply for local jobs. Students can also build their own profile recognising their own strengths and weaknesses, learning style as well as their passions and interests.

Data collected at the school often reflects that some of our students perceive that their teacher does not know them well. These self created student  profiles allow  teachers a snapshot of their students' perception of themselves. Students have been working on this profile in the past few Mentor and Homegroup sessions.

Another great feature is that all House Points awarded are now able to be viewed. Students can see which teacher has awarded the points and the reason they were awarded!  In the next week last year’s accumulative points will also be added so students can continue striving for House Point badges.

The really great aspect of MyMahi is that parents can view their child's profile and points. If you have not yet received a ‘connection request from your child, please ask them to log onto MyMahi and and send you a ‘connection’ request. This can be done under the ‘connections’ tab; you can navigate around their profile and view their house points; these can be viewed under the ‘rewards’. See below:
