Aboriginal Education
Naggangbi!
In this addition of The Wiritjiribin Word I’d like to share with you two important programs we run in the Aboriginal Education Faculty at Camden High School.
DEADLY Study Sessions -
Our weekly DEADLY Study Sessions support First Nations students with literacy, numeracy and assessment task preparation. Students work in small groups on interactive activities which boost their skills and many of the resources and activities used are directly linked to First Nations cultures and perspectives, so the learning is two-fold.
Friday Yarns -
Held in our beautiful Yarning Circle and Bush Tucker Garden, this program takes place every Friday during Roll Call and is open to all students at Camden High. Proudly sponsored by the amazing team at Bakers Delight Camden, Friday Yarns is an opportunity for students to connect, to listen, to share and to learn about First Nations culture and perspectives.
So far this term we have listened to the story ‘We are Australians’ and yarned about its themes of respect, connection to Country and being open to different viewpoints, we have yarned about Australia Day, about Wiritjiribin the Lyrebird (and totem of the Dharawal people of the Campbelltown/Camden area) and listened to Dharawal Dreaming stories.
