From the

Leadership Team

This has been a very exciting week for the GSSC community as we have proudly celebrated Harmony Week. Harmony Week is one of our major celebrations because it is all about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, from the traditional owners of the land to our newest arrivals.

Last Friday the College held our Harmony Day Concert. Our staff, students, families, and community members were privileged to watch the performances of our students, which ranged from traditional dances, songs, poems, demonstrations, and a fashion parade.

This week our students have also had the opportunity to participate in a variety of Harmony Week activities, including a Food Safari, orange themed out-of-uniform Dress-up Day, and visiting guest speakers. A huge thank you is extended to the GSSC Harmony Day Committee led by Megan Dixon (Committee: Trish Baggs, Muzhgan Qazikhil, Deborah Fili, Sifa Mireye-Karakoc, Chris Harris, Kayla Doncon, Peter Cantlin, Elisha Fiddes).

To coincide with Harmony Week the Humanities Department organised a ‘Courage to Care’ incursion for all of our Senior History Students and all of our Year 9 students. The ‘Courage to Care’ is a Secondary Program organised by the Holocaust Museum in Melbourne. Our students heard first-hand accounts of experiences during the Holocaust and the after effects of World War 2. Our students took inspiration from real-life extraordinary acts of courage performed by ordinary people (pictured).

During the past fortnight our Year 7 and Year 9 students have been participating in online NAPLAN testing. A big thank you is extended to Stacie Lundberg, Carly Bostancioglu, Will Lees and Steven Elford for the overall leadership organisation of NAPLAN. We would like to also thank our staff who convened the NAPLAN sessions and our students who demonstrated our school values of Aspiration, Integrity, Respect and Responsibility.

During the month of March Greater Shepparton Secondary College students competed at the Goulburn Murray District Swimming Championships at Aquamoves in Shepparton. GSSC placed 2nd in the Men's division, 3rd in the women's division and 2nd to Notre Dame College in the overall school rankings.

Well done to all swimmers who represented the school and congratulations to Ellie Robertson and Cooper Symes who were named Age Group Champions for the day. All the results follow in this newsletter.

A reminder to our families/carers that Parent Student Teacher Conference bookings are now available to book on Compass. Our PST Conferences in Term 1 will all take place online on Teams on Wednesday 5th April from 4pm-6pm and Thursday 6th April from 10am-1.30pm.

The last day of school for students to attend is Wednesday 5th April. We encourage our students and families/carers to take this valuable opportunity to speak with classroom teachers to provide feedback that will support future growth.
