From the Head of Sport

Well done to all those teams who have made it through to the grand final this weekend for their ISA sport. Basketball games will be held at Penrith Basketball Stadium at Cambridge Park, Touch Football at the Macquarie University playing fields and Tennis at the Lithgow Tennis Courts.

I encourage everyone to come along and enjoy the great atmosphere generated at Finals games.

Thanks

Thank you to all the students and parents who helped out on the BBQ at the Touch Football Semi-Finals last weekend. Your efforts were greatly appreciated.

Mountain Biking

This week we have a team of boys attending the Australian Schools Mountain Biking Challenge at Thredbo. We wish them all the very best for a great week.

The first report received from Mrs Rutherford advised that:

"Day 1 and 2 of the event has been exciting (and cold and windy!).

On the first day, only Lucas R had an event - Flow trail - which is his favourite but unfortunately he got a puncture at the first turn into the course so couldn’t finish the event. To say he was disappointed was an understatement!

However, on Day 2 both Lucas and Fabian B raced in the Cross Country race, with Lucas finishing in 6th place in his Division (out of about 170 boys!). Fabian also completed the course, which is not a favourite event of his but still earned points for BMGS!

From Day 3, the older boys start their races. The schedule has been changed to accommodate the weather, mainly wind and having to close the chairlifts."

ISA Swimming Carnival

The ISA Swimming Carnival will be held on Wednesday, 15th March at Sydney Olympic Swim Centre.

Information for this Carnival will be distributed to those students who qualify. Any student who is unable to attend must notify immediately so that we can replace them if possible.

Please note School swimming caps are to be worn and are available for purchase from the Uniform shop.

Congratulations - Triathlon (correction)

Further to last week's Newsletter, we update the following result:

Senior Girls – Tarana Stubenrauch, Jessica Harris and Hannah Brown-Robbins

The position of 61/88 was across all senior girls and boys. The girls finished 26th/50 in the female rankings for their division which was an outstanding achievement. Well done, girls!

BMGS Tennis – Doubles Championships

This has been our first time in the competition and I was very proud to have our Doubles combination of Jesse and David Seeded number 1. This was due to their being a doubles pair the whole season and consistently winning over this time. Neil and Eladie have played a couple of matches together and Neil has only joined us this year so they were Seeded 5th.

In order to have the top two teams play against each other in the Finals, Team 1 played 8; 2 played 7; 3 played 6; and 4 played 5.

Both teams had a win in the Quarter Finals, and then met each other in the Semi-Finals, guaranteeing us a place in the final. Jesse and David partnered well together and won the first set in a tie break (4-3) before winning the second set 4-1.

Their opponents for the Final were from Kinross in Orange who had also had a good season. It was a tight match, made up of 3 tie-break sets. They won the first tie break and then bounced back in the second set after being down to force a second set tie break which they lost in a close tussle; the match went to a match tie break which was won by Kinross.

I must congratulate the way in which the students played, applauding good serves and shots from their opposition as well as each other. Well done, Jesse and David on being our Runners Up in the Doubles Championship!

We are looking forward to our Singles Championship next week!
