Principal's Report

with Simone Roy

These last few weeks of a term always seem like a hard slog as tiredness starts to become commonplace. It is at this time that we can’t let the ball drop and need to make sure that student routines towards bedtime and eating well are maintained to help get them through to the holidays.

Street Access

Just reminding families that while students can go to the street when needed for appointments, or the rare occasion when there is no food in the house on a Monday, when the Caf is closed; the Department requires written permission from home, preferably through Compass or a note. The student needs to attend to their appointment and then return to school immediately, as the school’s duty of care lapses with parent permission to go to the street and re-starts on their return. Ideally, students should not need to go to the street in school times, except under rare circumstances.

Winter Uniform

It’s timely for a reminder about getting organised for winter as the weather cools down. Students can wear a navy blue or white long sleeved top under their school polo shirt for extra warmth, and there are now 3 uniform options for outer layers – all with logos; a windcheater, polar fleece or the water proof jacket. Any, or a combination of all, of these can be worn. All other tops/jackets/hoodies are not uniform and will be asked to be removed, so start thinking about ordering these items of uniform now before the cold really hits!

NAPLAN

Students in Years 7 and 9 have been participating in the state based NAPLAN testing since last week. I have been very proud of the way these students have worked hard to do their best in the tests and once finished, have been quiet and patient, waiting for the rest of their group to finish. The official testing will be all wrapped up by tomorrow, with the remaining few days of this week used to complete catch up tests for those that have been away at a test time.

Date Reminders

Wednesday 22nd March: The first meeting of the new school council, with a special council meeting to co-opt community members prior. The special council meeting will be held at 6pm in Room 9, followed by the first school council meeting starting at 6.30pm.
