Paul Frye congratulates graduates
Last night 230 people gathered at the Campbell's Creek Community Centre to celebrate the Year 12 graduation, finishing their secondary education. The days weather had us in some doubt if we would be able to go ahead, as the area had major power outages, high winds causing many roads to be blocked. Not long before the event was due to begin the cool change swept in and the evening was saved when the power returned. The students were treated to a grand entrance in some amazing Hot Rods thanks to our community partnership with the Castlemaine Hot Rod Assoc.
All students and families are reminded of CSC’s 2020 Step-Up . It is an expectation that all 2020 Year 8-12 students attend for the entire two weeks. During this program students will begin their curriculum for 2020, with each Learning Area conducting one assessment piece during this time. Not attending places individuals at a disadvantage for 2020, which is particularly true for VCE students.
During the Step-Up Program, the 2020 Year 12 students will not be permitted to sign out and leave the College premises unless they are accompanied by an adult.
Learning Festival (Monday 9th – Friday 13th December)
Our Learning Festival this year will have a community partnership focus, with different Learning Areas planning a range of engaging learning opportunities. Please see below for an overview of the program.
Monday 9th to Friday 13th - Artist in Residence sculpture week with Debra Goldsmith
Students are invited to attend a 5-day sculpture workshop, at the Etty Street Campus, with Artist in Residence, Debra Goldsmith. Debra will guide students through her exciting genre to create a large-scale sculpture with a sustainable twist. This is a hands-on week where students will learn new skills and processes. The week will culminate in the sculptures being staged and set to sound and light in an impressive display.
Limited to 20 participants but with potentially additional students for lighting and sound on the last 2 days of the event.
Monday 9th – The World at Work: this day will involve student developing a better understanding of the different employment options with the local community, with visits planned for the Victorian Miniature Railway (Harcourt) and the Castlemaine Hospital. Students will also experience presentations from the Don KR, Australian Defense Force and Fairbrother Constructions, which include a ‘site tour’ of the new school buildings.
Tuesday 10th – Fire Safety: students will learn about the importance of being ‘fire ready,’ with specific sessions on home fires and bush fires. Throughout the day students will also complete a session at the Castlemaine Fire Station.
Wednesday 11th – Climate Change: students will engage in a range of activities associated with climate change, looking at and investigating this issues from various educational perspectives.
Thursday 12th –
Workshop 1: Linocut Christmas Card Designs
Working in small groups, students will create multiple linocut prints and incorporate these designs into a selection of Christmas cards, which will be delivered to residents of Penhall Nursing Home. Students will also take a selection home for themselves, of course.
Workshop 2: Mini-book production
Students will work closely with a local artist to design, write and create a haiku mini-book with cyanotype illustrations.
Note - Students should select one workshop to attend for the whole day.
Friday 13th – Let’s get Physical: students will engage with numerous local sporting organizations which will broaden student’s understanding of opportunities for exercise whilst being able to build enhanced social connections. Local clubs involved will include Castlemaine Golf Club, Castlemaine Bowls Club and Castlemaine Tennis Club
On the Monday and Tuesday will be able to select from a range of school based activities that will generally run for two sessions. On Wednesday and Thursday we will conduct excursions to the Bendigo Pool (Faith Leech Aquatic Centre) and Bendigo Cinemas, respectively. Students will be required to return a permission for to attend these days.
Families are encouraged to download the XUNO application from the App Store. This application can provide easy to access information to parents in a very convenient way. In 2020 CSC plans to start making more use of ‘app notifications’ to communicate with families. The login details for each family will remain the same, with the school code being 6dv79a.
If you require any assistance please contact the College.
