Winter Workshop Month
Winter Workshop Month
It’s the first week of spring, which means Winter Workshop Month has officially come to a close. Throughout August, we were treated to a range of focused workshops on different aspects of the music industry. Our enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff from both the classroom and instrumental program did a fantastic job sharing their skills and experience with groups of students each lunchtime.
The two sessions of Intro to an Instrument gave students a chance to learn and try out different musical instruments such as drums, woodwind, brass, keyboard and violin. We also learned about sound recording and live audio from guitar teacher, Luke Hart, for three sessions and our keyboard teacher, Elly Prappas, showed us the importance of practice and the effect music has on your brain.
“Winter Workshop Month was a really big success for the Music program. I thought In the Spotlight was a very educational and positive workshop. It was also a chance to actually get feedback from people who have experience in the industry.” – Olivia Brock
There were heaps of opportunities to learn about music theory, song writing, instrument care and being in a band, so we hope students took every opportunity to learn more about music.
We also took 15 music students to the Melbourne AIM campus to do a tour the building, talk to staff and do a vocal masterclass and sound recording workshop.
“The winter workshops were extremely helpful, with teachers that have had real life experience with sound engineering and recording. The AIM excursion was a good learning experience to see what the real world is actually like. It gave us an insight into the different degrees available and it was also a good chance to see some of the facilities and meet some of the people there.” – Liam Finnigan
Thank you to all teachers who ran a workshop! We hope the students who attended got something special out of this experience. Look out for our Instrumental Music Concert next term in Week 4.
