Senior School Report

It is nearly the end of Term 1. The Year 11 students have started to settle and become more comfortable being part of the Senior School and are working productively and effectively.

The Sub School has interviewed students and in some cases have had parent meetings regarding Progress Reports. These reports are continuously being used to monitor students at risk, and identify students who are ready for further extension in their studies.

The Year 12 Progress Reports were informative for both students and parents as they closely monitor individual students’ progress on a regular basis – reporting on formative tasks as well as the SACs.

Parents can access all reports through Compass.

Co-ordinators are continuing to conduct class visits to encourage punctuality to classes. It is essential for students to organise their time and be punctual to classes so that everyone can make the most of their class time and disruptions are minimised.

Co-ordinators will be checking to make sure students have made appointment times for the Parent Teacher Interviews which are held on Wednesday, 3 April.

One Friday, 8 March, we hosted our traditional ‘Senior School Soccer Challenge’ where the Year 11 team with their colours being red and white, and called themselves ‘Mi Goreng’ played against the Year 12 team, whose colours were back and pink, and name was ‘PTG’.  Cheer squads dressed in their team colours chanting their team song throughout the afternoon.  Students from Year 10 to Year 12 classes were the spectators.  It was a nail-biting match up to the last second, where the score was 7 – 7. After extra time, the score was still tied. We then went to penalty shoot-out, where the Year 11 team ‘Mi Goreng’ were victorious.  It was so exciting for everyone to watch and as always, both the winning team and the defeated team, congratulated each other in true sporting style, and made us all proud.

There were assemblies held on Wednesday, 13 March, where the Year 12 VCAL students presented information about ‘National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence’ and the activities that were going to run on Friday, 15 March.  The SLAT (Student Learning Advisory Team) spoke about LATAR (our school’s learning cycle in the classroom) and we looked at ‘Study Time tables’ with the Year 12 students.

There was also a presentation about students reflecting on their Progress Report

  • What have they done well?
  • Where do they need to improve?
  •  Are they on track to achieving their goals for the year?

These conversations can continue at home with their families.

Some Year 11 students received certificates for their participation in the Italian Poetry competition.

One Year 12 student, Anthony MANIAPOTO received a certificate for modeling our school values of ‘respect’ and ‘integrity’.

The Year 12 VCAL classes ran lunchtime activities for the ‘‘National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence’. They also gave out ‘Anti Bullying’ bands to all the senior school students as a symbol of how we do not tolerate any type of bullying at St Albans SC.   Well done to all involved.

Just a reminder that all ‘Learning Tasks’ and the ‘Students Weekly Planners’ are accessible through Compass for parents/guardians to see what tasks are being done in various subjects during the semester.

The After School Study Group program is running smoothly in the Library on Thursday afterschool for one hour. All students are welcome to attend this group. Students who are behind with work will be required to attend. There are at least four tutors that volunteer their time every week to support the program.

The enrichment program for Year 12 Biology has commenced.

The Lady Northcote excursion for all Year 11 students is on Friday, 29 March. Students who don’t attend, are required to be at school.

On Thursday, 2 May all Year 11 VCE students will be attending the VCE Careers Expo held at Caulfield.  This is an important event for students as there are representatives for different universities and TAFEs that provide students with information about different courses.

All VCAL students will be attending the VCAL Expo in Wednesday, 8 May at Lakeside Convention Centre.

Parents need to log onto Compass to give permission for their child to attend the expos.

Our SRC continues to work tirelessly to improve the social and physical environment of our college. The Year 12 Captains are the backbone of our SRC and they attend numerous events to promote the work we do in the college.

Many thanks to the parents who contact us when their child is absent for any reason. This is of great assistance to the Year Level Coordinators, as we will call home regularly if there are any unexplained absences.

The Case Management process has begun and the attendance, achievement and individual needs of all our students continues to be monitored closely.

Please contact us on 9366. 2555 if you have any queries or concerns about the progress of your child.
